T.O. and the GTA area certainly have the best commuter train system anywhere in the country. One thing they can improve is to have dedicated double-track high-speed rail lines between Montreal-Toronto & Ottawa-Toronto. That would make short weekend trips all the more fun, like in many parts of Europe and Asia.

Victoria can start with a single line connecting the city centre to Esquimalt, Langford and Colwood, for a start.

And happy belated Easter to you as well!

I posted these tonight on the Found city photo thread that Zoomer started and thought I'd share these on here as well... I took these two photos last week.

I went to the top of Highrock Park in Esquimalt tonight. Such a beautiful sunset. I got a few photos of the city and thought I'd post them tonight.

I hate to be the one to say it, but man, Victoria’s skyline is turning out to be really monotonous and bland.

I actually disagree somewhat. Some of the newer developments have some nice architecture and differ from each other a lot.

Victoria has never been about skyscrapers or skylines. Pretty much no no cares or considers ‘the skyline’ here other than makings sure nothing too dominant appears or overshadows existing heritage buildings. In fact if it wasn’t for GreatScaper there would be virtually no skyline or downtown density pictures in existence, lol. He’s on a one man mission! The focus here is totally on the street level experience for decades, and for the most part that’s been successful as it’s one of the most enjoyable pedestrian experiences in Canada. I’d love to see even a few iconic new buildings pop up here and there, it’s amazing how one or two buildings can totally transform the perception of a city’s skyline - thinking of Edmonton and Saskatoon in particular. It will be challenging as unless it’s on or near the waterfront it just wont’ have much of an impact, and that’s where there will be the biggest push back. In the meantime there are a ton of solid projects coming online which will make Victoria ridiculously dense for a small city, and eventually, and perhaps with a change at City Hall one day there may be an appetite for something more bold. And yet, coming into the inner harbour by boat you’re still presented with an iconic skyline shot, and although short, one of the best in Canada, framed by the new towers on Songhees, the Empress, Parliament Buildings, heritage buildings along Wharf street and Johnson street bridge.

Thanks Zoomer for the kind words and I totally agree with your opinions too. I had a pretty chill day though I did do paperwork for my business for a chunk of my day today. I did however sneak up to Mount Tolmie and take a few quick skyline photos. The air wasn't as clear as it could be but better than it usually is. Here's a few that I took today.

Hate to be that annoying guy but with a setting like the inner harbor Victoria, really doesn't need bold, daring supertalls to define it as much as an Edmonton or Saskatoon would. Vic West has been coming online with a lot of decent buildings of late especially when viewed at flying in on a seaplane. I didn't think much of it 20 years ago at all.

These shots are fantastic, really takes me away to a quieter, more peaceful city that still has plenty of amenities and services.

I have to agree with you on this. Used to be so much nicer overall, especially if you live to see it prior to the 60s. The Customs House rebuild at the waterfront is also rather bland, and nothing compared to the 1950s built neo-classical extension.

With that said, thankfully there are still a few very beautiful examples of colonial architecture: some very nicely preserved, such as the Janion near the Blue Bridge.

And Great Scaper, once again thanks for those beautiful pics. The sunshine really makes everything look refreshed. I think Reothe250 meant that the newer structures look bland. If you compare them to those built before, they may be able to pack in some serious housing density, but definitely not the looks. In fact, the most beautiful buildings in Victoria are the shorter buildings (not referring to those ugly one or two storey ones of course).

Thanks so much Vin.

I took a few photos of the new Dockside green developments under construction a couple of weeks ago. They won't be the tallest buildings but still cool to see it under construction again.

I was going to do paperwork and month end billing all day today but I was pretty tired from a long week of work so I decided to go and get some skyline photos of Victoria this afternoon. These are the photos that I decided to edit and upload. I'm not sure why the quality is better on Flickr than when shared on SSP.

Yes, 100%. I think Victoria is a very lovely city with an amazing urban fabric. It’s just a shame that a lot of the recent (last 20 years) builds have been extremely underwhelming, suburban-Vancouver-like. And in their respective locations, are dominating what was a very unique skyline

I took a few photos of the Hudson II development today. I just haven't had much time to take photos lately. It's going to be Victoria's second tallest building.

Thanks for the update GS. Looking forward to seeing this rise rapidly this summer. Too bad it's directly behind the tallest as it might end up looking like one giant block from some vantage points.

I took this one of a rental nearly completed at the corner of Johnson and Quadra.

Thanks Zoomer, I think you maybe right regarding how this will look from certain places but I'm excited to see it getting built. This is a great photo of this building that you took. I really like this building a lot too. It looks great coming into town. It's just not tall enough though as it's over shadowed by Chard's towers.

It really is too bad they didn't get a little more creative with the second Hudson building, in spite of its height it'll really look like the poor little brother of Hudson one.
