Maybe there is a back room along the north edge of the casino that could be used for the skywalk, instead of renovating the couple year old Shark Club. I'm not sure. Still seems easier than connecting directly into MTS centre. That area is always such a mess during events, with the gate to the upper deck being inside the skywalk, above Graham Ave.
I'll try and remember to check when I go to work tonight but I think there is space available where the escalators from Hargrave to the 2nd level of City Place are.

There is the entrance off Hargrave with the shark club signage. But I think that's too far down the block. Maybe not though.

that's the area, I don't know if a building owner would really want to have a connection through a restaurant/lounge to an adjacent building.

If for some reason there is a private function or a health dept closure then you loose access.

Floor Plans for Tower 1

http://www.truenorthsquare.com/wp-co...LOOR_PLANS.pdf

By flipping through the pages, you can see the slight differences between the floors

Just thought while having dinner, the Shark Club kitchen is on the south side of the 2nd level access so they must have some sort of passage way next to the outside wall over the escalators. Only other way not to go through the Shark Club would be to relocate the McDonalds remote freezer area at the Graham / Hargrave corner

Is there space between the emergency stair well and the Shark Club? That would seem to be the most logical point to connect to cityplace...and it wouldn't be in the middle of the restaurant - they'd just have to cut Shark Club back by however wide that corridor would be.

just got onto the TN web site and saw the plans. Looks like the idea is to go through the escallator lobby on 2 as the concept plans show a streight line from the library skywalk.

I guess there could be some sort of secure access doors to keep people from wandering into the kitchen of of the new skywalk.

I think everything here is great and I'm so excited. My only concern is that it looks like my fear of Hargrave being relegated to a back lane essentially for the project, and killing the potential pedestrian ideas for Hargrave/cityplace is coming true. Hard to tell for sure from the lack of renders of that side (probably on purpose), but looking at the main floor floor plan, looks like most of the Hargrave side is loading docks, emergency exits, and elevator shafts.

This whole development makes me wonder if Longboat and Shark Club are kicking themselves for not making the gaming centre bigger. Seems like a full-service casino would make a lot of sense in this area of the SHED. The second part of that is it makes me wonder if those rumours of a new downtown casino have something behind them. Although no way a casino and Shark Club could both make it work, but maybe the gaming centre goes away?

Having that small part of Hargrave loading docks isn't that bad as there isn't much of the other side. Plus the massive concourse between building 1 and 2 makes up for it and it's pure pedestrians and no cars or buses.

Yeah but the idea of opening up the main floor of cityplace to the street was amazing, and this would kill that.

Absolutely incredible development

Hopefully it all goes through, but this is fantastic for Winnipeg. Imagine if this and sky city both get built?

I am ecstatic to see how what I thought would develop because of the expanded convention centre came true.
I envision at least one more major upscale hotel and a moderately sized and priced one to be announced downtown in the next couple of years as well.
As most, I liked the original renders with more curves etc.. but reality kicks in with costs and practicality.
WE also gained one more tower today. 4 in total.
Plus now 2 will have residential.. Tower 4 is totally residential plus Tower 2 will have some on the upper floors of the 24 floor edifice.
The mega Liquor Mart. is quite a surprise.
I hope the supermarket and some cosmopolitan shops and gourmet food places become part of this.
I have heard from a few clients who have purchased in Sky-City so I am hoping it also goes through. These 2 projects alone can trigger and leverage more new developments

I know someone "up" there at the Scotiabank in Winnipeg - what they confirmed to me is that only part of Scotiabank offices @ P&M, apparently the wealth offices, are the ones moving to the new tower at TNS. Apparently Sask doesn't have a wealth branch so its all handled in the Peg. The other offices will remain @ P&M.

The Prairie region head office has always been in Winnipeg - its just for MB/SK.

The one in Calgary is the head office for all of Western Canada, and those offices won't be moving to Winnipeg.

Also, there is no talk of new jobs going to Winnipeg currently. They apparently recently hired a bunch of out-of-province people (but by a bunch I don't mean a significant addition) but I am told they really need more room and were signed on this tower in the early stages of planning (and that them being the official bank of NHL in Canada played a role as well in partnering with TN)

To be honest, it's hard to imagine that we went through a 20 year period (1990-2010) where virtually nothing was built downtown (or anywhere else for that matter).

Suddenly, including Hydro.. That's 6 towers built (Hydro, Alt, Glasshouse, D-Condo, Heritage Landing, U of W commons) downtown since 2009 and 5 more scheduled in the next 24 months with a new tallest.

We're even seeing substantial residential high rises being built in the suburbs (Edgewood Estates among others).

Never woulda thunk it.

Must have been something to be alive in the late 60's through early 80's when our last highrise building boom happened.

I do still wish that we got the sleeker taller Hydro building at Portage & Main rather than the squat looking Toronto style genero-box that took out a city block of private businesses.

I have really come to love Manitoba Hydro's head office at 360 Portage. It is a truly fascinating building.

While featureless from a skyline perspective, I won't deny that it's a good looking building.

To date, arguably the nicest modern office downtown.

It's just that it took out a city block of businesses when there was a gravel lot at Portage & Main.

Hydro had the exact same effect as Trizec. It was a solution to urban decay that didn't exist at that location.

Agghhh, i'll be looking at that trash strewn piece of dirt at our famous intersection for the rest of my life.

Spending time over-analyzing the image gallery at truenorthsquare.com - I can't figure out image 4/16 whatsoever. Is that looking south? Because it looks like the Delta and church in background, but the image on the right doesn't make sense. Is that supposed to be Carlton Ave and a different image of "hotel"?

I think that's old as it appears to be 9 stories as the Carlton Hotel site was originally a 9 story building.

And image 7/16 would be the TNS walkway into cityplace over Hargrave. Seems to be quite open and fairly pedestrian friendly and not a "back of the building" feeling as feared.
