Heh it was the stretch that @Metro-One and I fumed over because B.C. is paying more for less. Oh well better than nothing...? 3.3 km should be enough to pass most big rigs.

Yeah - I was fuming about paying more for less road as well, and I thought they replaced a planned interchange with an at-grade intersection in sneaky fashion. The video posted by flipper mentions “interchange” but I wonder if that actually means at-grade intersection ?

The original project was 9km of twinning with 2 interchanges.

The current new project is around 6km of twinning with one interchange, and two protected T intersections.

I thought only 3. Meh, at least I'm not as disappointed.

6 km of twinning and especially one new interchange is a very biog deal in BC.

Here's the funny thing:
Y'all know that I used to whine that B.C. does things slowly re. Highway 1.
Then I saw the rock cuts through google street view.
Now I'm like, "Take your time. Have fun blasting the Rockies without triggering anything more."

Canadian Shield is hard to blast, but at least stability isn't an issue (i.e. no rockslides) for the most part.

Drive Highway 1 between Kamloops and Alberta. You will change your tune even quicker. The problem with armchair planning is you miss the real issues. TBH, that is also something missing in most civil projects. When was the last time someone planning a transit route rode transit?

I think that's just you being demanding.

How will twinning occur through the snow sheds around Rogers' Pass? I can't see alternatives to extended shut downs, which the lack of alternative routes renders impossible, or living without the sheds for a year or two while the highway is twinned and new sheds constructed. Some avalanche paths could be bypassed with tunnels or maybe diverted using concrete structures.

I would say this for sure.
Or re-routing the highway.

Must be Parks. So I doubt those snow sheds are getting twinned any time soon.

You'd think they would build a parallel road then either just keep the existing sheds or route onto the new road while they rebuild the existing properly without the central divider.

Lol I'm asking because I don't trust B.C.M.T.I. with this.

So we now have a time line for closure of the kicking horse section. The highway will be closed for a month. April to March. By pass on 93 and 95.
