Kaohsiung looks like a tacky mainland Chinese city, like it belongs in hainan. Taipei’s building designs (not all) have more sophistication/restraint. Less neon.

You don’t seem to consider the difference between office buildings and residences
Most highrise (>100m) buildings in Taipei are for office use, while most highrise (>100m) buildings in Kaohsiung are for residential use.
It’s incredible to judge with neon lights. This is a very strong prejudice.
I have heard some comments from foreigners that Kaohsiung has fewer Chinese-style buildings than Taipei, and it is less like a Chinese city.
