The link is with the Tompkins County Area Development Facebook page. There's several pictures, the > is on the right of the photos. Pics are from tour of downtown's new tallest under construction.

After years of proposals and wrangling, a housing project on an Inlet Isle site is finally nearing completion. Though some locals complain that this is not affordable housing, I have a feeling the places will be rented quickly. From the Ithaca Voice:

The largest proposed project in Ithaca recently received it's site approval after 5 years. The Ithaca Times did an info story on the local developer behind this project as well as the new tallest downtown seen in post #561 above. As noted many times in this thread, a developer has to be persistent and willing to take on the insane approval process of the city. In the case of the Chain District, not only the city but the Town of Ithaca re involved which adds another layer to the process. Here's the Ithaca Times profile of the developer:

https://www.ithaca.com/news/ithaca/c...df3f93bb0.html

Here's a link to the project's info (which could probably use an update)

https://www.chainworksdistrict.com/

I hope this project gets done before I am done.

Finally, a student housing project (Ithaca College students) has been approved (from the Ithaca Times):

https://www.ithaca.com/news/ithaca/p...e649615c0.html

From the Ithaca Voice an article regarding housing growth in Tompkins County (though much more is needed):

https://ithacavoice.com/2019/09/tomp...-construction/

Also from the Voice, a land purchase on the West End which I'm sure signals a desire to transform the West End/ Inlet Isle area into an exciting urban neighborhood:

Well I guess it's somewhat a victory, although for the life of me I don't understand what exactly the difference is between a 5 story building and a six story building, especially considering the lack of affordable housing in the city.

Article from the Ithaca Voice:

Two articles covering the recent Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting. Holding up the big Carpenter Park redevelopment.

First from the Ithaca Times:

Second is from the Ithaca Voice, much more in-depth:

A couple of articles from the Ithaca Voice which have a somewhat positive slant, but really point out two of the biggest problems in the Ithaca area.

First is a study which says apartment renters are a touch better off last year than the year before as far as affordability.

https://ithacavoice.com/2019/10/as-a...unty-improves/

Next is an update on two major projects downtown. While there has been forward progress, the process is slowing than a snail going up the down escalator.

Some more info about a large waterfront proposal and a development in the Collegetown neighborhood (both articles from the Ithaca Times).

A couple of articles related to the Green Street garage section of downtown from the Ithaca Times.

first is a summary of a recent city board meeting regarding Rimland's proposal for a high rise on the eastern end of the garage. Sorry, no renderings supplied:

https://www.ithaca.com/news/ithaca/m...50088761b.html

This article is about the possible conference center in the central part of the garage:

it's impressive how much activity there is all over the city. being a college and university town, it really reminds me of a condensed Madison.

I think there are several college towns which are undergoing a large amount of development. I know State College, PA has several hi-rises in downtown proposed or under construction, and I believe Ann Arbor is also quite busy with projects. East Lansing is undergoing quite a transformation. I haven't kept up with Madison, but it wouldn't surprise me if it too was building up some more.

With that said, here's an article from the Ithaca voice updated a few of the projects under construction:

Well, this was a surprise. For months there had been rumors of a major development in my old neighborhood. There hadn't been any thing solid just mostly guessing. Now it looks like a major project may well be in the future for the city. Here's an article from the Ithaca Voice about one of the bigger local developers:

https://ithacavoice.com/2019/12/as-h...tion-district/

This could be a game changer for the city. I do have some concerns that the old apartment where I grew up could disappear.

Andrew Cuomo is the main Government leader responsible for having a large interest in the success of Ithaca. In case anyone from Ithaca was wondering.

Going all the way back to the 1980s. He actually has a personal appreciation and preference for Ithaca that is strong and intelligently motivated.

An article from the Ithaca Journal regarding the potential new conference center is a major multi-use development downtown:

https://www.ithacajournal.com/story/...er/2821310001/

Here is an Ithaca Voice article regarding new zoning for the Town of Ithaca which surrounds the city. Long but interesting for those concerned about keeping urban spread from taking up all the county.

https://ithacavoice.com/2020/01/town...w-zoning-code/
