Not living in NO, it's difficult to tell -- what exactly is that paint on the side of the Odeon building?

Thanks again for all the photos!

Sidney Torres buys half block on Tulane Avenue, to revive area near expressway

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...a2f7a43c7.html

Sidney Torres IV has purchased nearly half of a city block at the intersection of Tulane and South Carrollton avenues and plans to redevelop the neglected corner in an effort to revive the area.

The nearly six-acre block at the Pontchartrain Expressway end of Tulane is currently occupied by the Fountainbleau Apartments, as well as a shuttered Burger King and surface parking areas. All of the properties, along with an adjacent self-storage building, have been owned by Memphis-based Absolute Storage Management for the past six years.

"I am going to revitalize the whole block," Torres said in an interview this week. "I want to get rid of all the prostitution and drug dealing there. I want to reinvest heavily and clean it up, put in more lighting and palm trees, paint the buildings, and do a task force like we did in the French Quarter to improve security."

Yeah don’t think half a block will cut it in that area but it’s certainly good news. May get others thinking about investing in the area. What happened to the new proposed build about halfway down Tulane? Can’t remember if it was office or residential. Lot was cleared some time back.

They did say would announce by the end of the year. While there is still time, im guessing they will wait til after New Years at this point.

Seems like there are/have been quite a few larger parcels either listed for sale or sold along Tulane Ave over the last 12-18 months. I would imagine the next five years will completely transform much of Tulane Ave. Its a great cooridor to add density, retail and even some built to suit office.

I'm surprised to see that the Starbucks in South Market District didn't make it and closed down!

Really?! That’s hard to believe and ominous for downtown retailers and restaurants. Yikes.

Happy to hear something will be replacing Starbucks. Any ideas?

Speaking of downtown, I noticed True Religion and MAC were both shut down with the windows papered. Wonder if something new is going in or just another COVID closure?

Interesting... most Starbucks are company owned but some Starbucks are “licensed” stores like those in grocery stores, airports and casinos. Basically a franchise and the operator has more freedom to set hours. South Market may have been one of these.
