They're not very comfortable or practical at the heights of buildings like One Bloor. The winds can get very strong and the balconies themselves are unusable around the winter months. I would much rather have floor-to ceiling windows right up to the edge of the suite where I can maximize the square footage I am paying for (and also the unobstructed views). But I totally understand why many people do love them and find uses for them.
I like what Mizrahi is proposing at The One though, with the convertible inset balconies which can be used during the winter time (or closed year round).

One Bloor from today:

You're preaching to the choir. Give me windows over a tiny windswept balcony any day. I like developments that offer both.

Planning encourages balconies. Don't see every unit having one otherwise. See more of the makeup of early glass slabs of the late 80s, early 90s where 4 units out of 12 on a floor have balconies.

That said, I have an apartment 80+ storeys up that has small windows that maybe open 2 inches. There's no quick escape to pull off a Tobin stance.

seeing that Brookfield Place tower go up, makes me wonder what the hell is taking so long for any word about what is going to happen at 81 Bay. Shouldn't care anyways, I can't even keep up with whats going up right now.

Developers aren't prone to tell us anything. It's not end of the year yet either

This time next year One Bloor's retail will be getting decked out for Christmas. It will be nice to get one corner back.

One Bloor is huge from a distance. I was in Etobicoke this weekend and One Bloor is clearly visible and the tallest tower in that area. It looks just as tall as Aura now.

It's also on a higher grade than Aura and certainly the CBD.

I liked the older cladding and prefer it to more sterile glass...
