(I'd also forgotten all about Ayn Rand's typical idiotic reverence for her murderer: see post 1836.)
Just finished (actually two weeks ago on a cruise ship with my in-laws. don't ask) Newton's Stolen Away about the Marion Parker kidnapping. It was a search, all those years ago, for a pic of Hickman's apartment building which originally brought me to the thread. Ugly business.

Parker Kidnapping and Murder

I always thought it was Marian Parker, but googling the case gives both spellings. I seem to remember this coming up on the thread before, but cannot find it now.

Wait, here it is. Beaudry confirms "Marion".

It's hard to argue with this:

And, as fate would have it, if you go to Hickman's apartment building at 1168 Bellevue (his unit was on the third floor just to the right of the main entrance) and then travel a short block to the north you'll find the intersection of Marion Street and Bellevue and a little bitty urban park named, what else(?) Marion Park, both of which predate the kidnap/murder. I've always wondered if there was some connection in Hickman's twisted brain.

Marion Park

Thank you MR. I'd heard of Marion Park(er) before, but thought I had not visited via googlemobile. Now I realize it's the traffic island in front of Bob's Market, discussed before on the thread:

gsv

Big Orange Landmarks' post on the 1913 Bob's Market building is here

Also on this intersection is Bidwell's house at 1255 Belllevue, used in "LA Confidential" (1997)

Could we possibly ask MFM to ask Mr. Ericson for some assistance?

Does anyone think these two might be Marge & Gower Champion?
They did films for M-G-M from the late 1940's to late 1950's.
Recently (might've been last Monday) on the BUZZR TV channel,
I came across an episode of WHAT'S MY LINE that had, as the
celebrity guests, Marge & Gower champion.

I thought #14 & #15 might be them for a bit, but I did see a photo
from The Glass Slipper of Leslie Caron in that outfit, so that must
be her.

According to this link, THE COMPLETE M-G-M MUSICALS CHRONOLOGY LIST
M-G-M made 60 musicals from 1950-1959. There is a poster for each one of them
on the site. I don't claim it's entirely accurate because, for one, I noticed there wasn't
a single Elvis film on the list and he did at least two for M-G-M.

Well I'm back from my brief hiatus.
I see that everyone chipped in to name the stars in the group photo.

I only strongly disagree with one....#39.

In my humble opinion, this is not Joan Fontaine.

I'm thinking Vera-Ellen.
__

And I don't think #12 is Lauren Bacall. It just doesn't look like her, and she seems too short (unless they purposely placed her in a gopher hole )

I have to agree ER, #39 is more likely Vera Ellen. The hair is correct for sure.

#12 is not Becall....as I would see her.

t2, here's an ad for the Grand Opening of Cinnabar, December 17, 1936.

"the climax of the evening was the unveiling of the Heinsbergen's murals."

Unbelievably, by late Spring 1937 Cinnabar closed it's doors.
(it's been said that the huge renovation costs doomed the nightclub)

I saw some film footage at the Academy (AMPAS) one time of Clara Bow, along
with Rex Bell, being interviewed in a booth, like the one above, at the "It Cafe"
and signing autographs for some fans as well.

***I looked up the program. What I saw was titled:
Newsreel: Hearst Metronome -- "Clara Bow Opens Her 'It' Club in Hollywood" (9/13/37)

Martin, I think that Vera's last film for MGM was Big Leaguer which was released in August, 1953...the date overall of this group photo.

Tovangar....Quite a few changes are still coming through for your updates....although I do feel exhausted. The noishers have made some
astute observations!

That's ineresting, I checked imdb again and though the filmography usually comes up first, it was the "Soundtracks" section that was listed, so Big Leaguer was not on that list! You are correct and I'll have to be aware of that, unless I clicked on it accidentally. I will delete that part of my post.

Martin, IMDb seems to prioritize the tab with the most entries. I mainly look up people who are best known for acting, but I've also been caught out a couple of times. In Vera-Ellen's case, there were 16 entries in both the Actress and Soundtrack sections.

I noticed #22 stayed blank for the longest time until Dolores Del Rio was suggested.

I believe it's Tamara Toumanova. She starred in "Tonight We Sing" (MGM, 1953) and a year later, she appeared in "Deep In My Heart" (MGM, 1954)

http://www.ronseymour.com/site/the-m...ymour-gallery/

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0869565/

Russ Tamblyn (#23) sits next to Tamara in the MGM photograph, and he was also in "Deep In My Heart".
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0848560/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t60

below: 8 other actors in the MGM photo (maybe more) appeared in "Deep In My Heart".

Jose' Ferrer
Merle Oberon
Walter Pidgeon
Jane Powell
Vic Damone
Ann Miller
Cyd Charisse
& Howard Keel
*

Here's the full cast list if you want to check it out.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046896/...=tt_cl_sm#cast

__

*and #12 might be Doe Avedon. ("Deep In My Heart"..............with Jose' Ferrer)

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/23/ar...t-86.html?_r=0

And if that's the case, then perhaps #13 is Jose' Ferrer after all.

Thanks Martin. One has to be careful with imdb.

My cousin is listed as an actor on that site. His death is also listed as a ''road accident in ...California'', when in fact he died of AIDS in New York City.
My late mother and other family members tried to keep everything about Curt, Top Secret from me. Curt and I share the same maternal great grandfather.

Curt Dawson was best known for his work in the Soap...The Guiding Light.

IMBd
Curt Dawson
Actor
Born: December 5, 1941, Russell, KS
Died: January 13, 1985, Long Beach, CA.....[this entry is incorrect.]
Movies: Mardi Gras Massacre, Blood Bath
TV: The Guiding Light
Another World (1964) and
As the World Turns

Here's a short story about Curt by his friend Ian McKellen:

A robbery ring's (rather odd) collection, 1938.

eBay

Here's the list:

Six Canaries, and as many (6) cages.
One Parrot.
A Love Bird.
A Stuffed Cat.
A Grandfather Clock.
& 22 Radios.

Needless to say, that is one bizarre collection!!

(also interesting, is the myriad of wanted posters lining the walls like wallpaper.

further information / reverse of photo.

eBay

ER, I suggested Doloros Del Rio simply out of desperation to find anyone who looked remotely like that, though I said that I couldn't find any MGM connection. You're probably right.
