SF only has 24 buildings 500+ feet or taller:

It will probably add more over the next six years, sure, but not even close to as many as Austin. Few other cities can match Austin's current pace.
Austin may not have quite as many as SF by then, but at the current pace, it will easily have more than 20 at 500 ft or taller. Using that metric, Austin will definitely be approaching the size of SF in six years. I know it's hard to believe and sounds crazy, but it's true. (All of this presupposes no consequential slowdown of course.)
Again, I know that some of those won't be built, but other projects will be announced also. The number of potential unannounced projects alone is astounding. Potential future projects could be announced on west 6th, on the post office block, on the lot next to the Austonian, at the Railyard Condo lots, at Avenue Lofts, at Brazos Lofts, at Trinity Hall, at VY Steakhouse, at Brackenridge and the northeast quadrant projects, etc. -- the pipeline is never ending. Now add to that list the lots/blocks I'm surely missing and whatever other lots become available/targeted for redevelopment downtown, west of the Capitol, and in West Campus. You're underestimating what is coming down the pike.
Edit: Sorry, I should have realized that my previous comment would have been overly scrutinized and lead to taking this thread off the topic rails.
