QUEBEC CITY | Le Phare de Québec (Phase I) | 250 M / 820 FT | 65 FLOORS

The imposing, two-million-square-foot real estate project will be built on the former site of the Auberge des Gouverneurs, which was demolished last year.

The complex will feature four towers and offer office, commercial, residential and hotel space.

“Le Phare de Québec, with its sleek lines reminiscent of the sails of these tall ships, will stand as a reminder of how they shaped our history,”.

At 65 storeys, the site’s tallest tower is expected to become the highest building east of Toronto.

It will be accompanied by three further towers, each expected to be between 25 and 30 storeys each.

The funds for the project’s $600-million price tag have come entirely from private investors.

Construction is slated to start next year and is expected to take approximately 10 years to complete.

A look at Le Phare de Québec by the numbers

2016: when construction is expected to kick off
600: million dollars in private investment
360: degree panaramic view on the public observation deck
350: construction jobs over a 10-year period
65: storeys in the main tower
4: towers in the complex
2: million square feet of total floor space

Exciting, but not exactly inspiring design.

St. Foy? It would be cool (albeit very Dubai-ish)...but on the other hand, I lament the CDB migration from the historical centre of QC to what was until the mergers, a suburb.

Interesting project, glad its far away from Historic quebce centre so that it won't overpower that part of the city. Hey this city is not the national capital. Ottawa is. The video is a little overwroight and heroic, its a bit silly.

Quebec City’s future ‘flagship building’ is a 65-storey skyscraper that critics say is more suited to Dubai

Stayed at the Auberge des Gouverneurs during a college ski trip, way back when.
Within Quebec, QC area is called the Capitale-Nationale.

Construction of Le Phare to begin in Fall 2016
Published in Le Soleil, 21 Dec 2015
http://www.lapresse.ca/le-soleil/aff...tomne-2016.php

After Videotron Center, 2016 could well be the year of Le Phare project in Québec. Groupe Dallaire is still working on getting its license and hopes to begin construction of the tallest skyscraper east of Toronto this fall. [note - would be tallest outside Toronto]

Reached by Le Soleil, the President and CEO of Groupe Dallaire, Michel Dallaire, does not hide that the next year is likely to be eventful for the largest landowner in the metropolitan region of Québec.

For Le Phare complex, on the site of the former Inn of the Governors, groundbreaking for the 65-story glass tower is expected to occur in late 2016, as planned.

"We're still in discussions with the City for rezoning. We still evolving on the plans. We must also go through the public consultation, lists Mr. Dallaire about the steps that remain to be taken before getting the green light to its proposed $ 600 million. "We have been working with the people of the City, the Ministry of Transport of Quebec and the Capital Transportation Network; all connections with the BRT [bus rapid transit] and public transit. "

Construction of Quebec's New Tallest Tower to Start This Year

Quote:
While the $600 million (CAD) project is currently expected to break ground in the fall of 2016, it will take approximately a decade to complete. By 2026, a mix of 1000 residential dwellings housing more than 2500 residents, a 300-room hotel, as well as office and commercial spaces will bring life to what has been a desolate corner since the demolition of the Auberge des Gouverneurs in 2014. The tallest of the complex's warped glass towers will feature retail and office spaces within its first 17 storeys, followed by the hotel and residences on top. Finally, the four towers and their respective podiums will frame a new public plaza, to be situated at the heart of the complex.

New Renderings Show a Revamped Version of Quebec's Next Tallest Tower

The ambitious scheme to build the tallest building in the Canadian province of Quebec has been revamped and refined, as announced today by Michel Dallaire, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Groupe Dallaire. On their proposed site along Boulevard Laurier in suburban Quebec City, the project team has taken the concept for the four-tower Le Phare de Québec development further, releasing a brand new set of images to coincide with the informative press conference.

It is MUCH better. Talk about a redesign, there is really nothing left of the old design other than height.

I'm still dumbfounded that a 945 ft building in Quebec will be built outside of Montreal and in Quebec City in all places. Does this open up the door for more near-supertall skyscrapers?

The current tallest is 430 ft. Anyone know how this building would look in the skyline?

The corporate base in Quebec City has been silently prospering for a long time. The unemployment rate is now the lowest of any metro in Canada. They're essentially building a new downtown a few km west of the old historic city centre. It will take decades of growth before a decent cluster forms but you have to start somewhere.

I just hope it doesn't end up like one of those sterile planned CBD's with little street life.
