1800 ft.? That's sweet. One of the renderings make it look like the World Trade Center on steroids! The architects went to McDonald's drive thru, and were probably asked "Do you want that 'Biggy' sized?" Well, He** yeah!
The tower could double in size if the Sherwood portion of the site is thrown in. Not that it would be taller, a larger component could squeeze in potential office space.

This area is will become the new Pudong of the west. NYC is building the big 3 all over again. Hudson Spire, 30 Hudson Yards, and now all we need is a tower that breaks 2000ft. NY tower (Like the Shanghai Tower).
^One way or another I feel like NYC will get a +1500 footer proposed this year or early next year.
Either way the magnitude and beauty of NYC will be doubled within a few years.

It's a conceptual design, being used to market the site to someone or a team of developers that would likely find such a thing attractive. It takes years to assemble sites large enough and with enough air rights to develop large towers, but here is one gift wrapped with the Hudson Yards zoning. It's early, but Time Warner's move to the Hudson Yards along with the subway expansion makes that area "official". The Hudson Spire would be right in the middle of it all.
Sherwood earlier flirted with the idea of hotel instead of office space for the site. But we'll wait and see if the site is expanded (consolidated) for a larger building.

The height reduction of Related’s tallest tower — at 30 Hudson Yards — will also allow any tower to enjoy completely unobstructed views from a relatively low 1,227 feet. Massey Knakal’s concept highlights luxury residences from the skyscraper’s 80th to 108th floors, and views would definitely be the driving motive behind extreme verticality.

It would be nice to have a rendering done up for the NYC diagram. There are several diagrams in there that are concepts, so I don't see why there shouldn't be one for this proposal. It appears that the height to the roof is 1,800+ feet and we know nothing of a spire yet, but there should be at least a rendering documenting what we currently know...
It's still just a concept. Whatever developer is brought on to the project would choose their own architects for the project.

Under the current scenario, the bulk of the tower would be hotel/condo. If the other piece of the property is obtained from Sherwood Equities (which would no longer be able to build the massive tower they were planning), there could be some office space added to the development. It's all a matter of just who gets the site, and just what will happen with the rest of it.
The Rosenthal family has hired Massey Knakal Realty Services Chairman Bob Knakal and his colleague James Nelson to market a parcel it owns stretching from West 35th to West 34th streets between 10th Avenue and what will be a grand new thoroughfare running through the neighborhood called Hudson Boulevard. That parcel can accommodate as much as 1.2 million square feet of space, including about 200,000 square feet of residential development.
Also, the site sits directly next to another similarly sized piece of land owned by Sherwood Equities, which for years has planned to develop a single super-tower on the two parcels in partnership with the Rosenthals. Now that the Rosenthals are selling, Ryan Nelson (no relation to James), a senior vice president at Sherwood Equities who manages the company's acquisitions and sales, said it, too, will consider selling its parcel to either the buyer of the Rosenthal land or another purchaser.
