Union Centre looks like it's bit the dust. Won't get built.

I don't think any of the big office proposals will get built.

Re: Union Centre

Reports are Allied is considering selling off its telecom buildings which I do find fascinating. However, this has nothing to do with the Union Centre development.

There's just too many proposals and more added every day. Most won't be built. One thing Toronto kick major ass is completing towers that have broken ground. Just about any other city that has completed as many towers as Toronto would have dozens of stalled half completed monoliths.

Union Centre I'm not too worried about, but I'm hoping for the Hub to get moving soon. UC was supposed shoe-horned into a spot that doesn't really need development while the Hub site is kind of ugly and empty looking.

Here’s more than 4 dozen updates to my 2020 Future Skyline pano from Bloor-Yorkville to the Lake. Includes new proposals, re-designs, height changes etc.

For those not from the city, this is a view looking east across Humber Bay.

SCROLL >>>>>>

EDITED TO ADD: And to continue the shameless self-promotion...here’s a LINK to a 4mg jpeg ‘Mega View’ if you’re interested in why it took me hours to draw stuff like the *FORMA super-tall to scale ;-).

Be sure to magnify.

Nice job. Personally I'd be happy if Union Centre never happened. Thedesign didn't look good beside the CN Tower.

Insane skyline. No doubt that Toronto is third in North America. Could maybe even surpass Chicago (except for the latter's world-class signature skyscrapers).

Is Union Centre that wide slab with the stepped roofline - designed by BIG ?
If so I’m kind of happy it’s dead too.

It is, I really liked the tower just not it's placement in the skyline. 3 Others I'm glad seem dead are Union Park. The design is too Dubai for my liking.

I'd like some silver buildings to detract from the blue/black glass mass that has taken over.

Really? I think we have enough silver already built and u/c. I'll take more black, but not more blue.

Ugh, new buildings being black is the worst trend in architecture in the last decade. We live in a country that's dark and grey for half the year already. Our cities need more warmth and colour, not less.

I'm not sure where black is being over done, at least in Toronto, and of the black buildings we have or are u/c almost all of them I like. Toronto is not dark and grey for half the year, but all of the silver and blue, and green all blend into each other. At least black stands out.
