They still need to do some property acquisitions and right of way work with CP Rail before you see major construction. This may start in 2017 but I doubt we will see it finished by 2019.

^^^ Jammer its actually the CN underpass on Wharncliffe that article relates to. Too many underpasses on Wharncliffe need to be redone all at once

The last paragraph in the article does actually mention this project, but yes is mainly about the CN overpass replacement.

The preparation for the rail diversion is well underway for this project. I hope to God the shift debate doesn't put a hold to this project. But in London anything is possible.

There's no way they're going to have BRTs on Wharncliffe-Western through the CP underpass. The whole purpose was to make Wharncliffe 4 continous lanes. I'd be more worried about the Wharncliffe CN underpass being stalled due to the "poor old NIMBY" making a stink that her home will be expropriated. With all the NIMBYism in the water, wouldn't be suprised it gets delayed too...

As well London wants to change the routing so that Highway 4 will be from Richmond then go down Western to Wharncliffe eliminating the highway from going downtown.

The Highway 4 thing does make sense because conceptual BRT drawings show road work where Richmond north of Western Road would be realigned to continue on Western; The 1500 block of Richmond would then end at Richmond-Western.

Right now, it's only continuous southbound.

Wharncliffe is so shabby north of Commissioners until Oxfart. Perhaps BRT could revitalize this sordid strip.

Actually incorrect. Highway 4 is being rerouted along Sunningdale, Wonderland, and the 401 to link between north and south portion of Highway 4 outside of the City.

It was embedded in a report about EDR changes.

Good progress on this years utility relocation phase work. Lot's of trees and shrubs cleared along the railway embankment.

Heavy equipment now on site to install the pilings for next years underpass reconstruction.

Interesting nugget of information, and long overdue. Though I feel like the route could have been established using Veterans Memorial Parkway too.

The challenge is Highway 4 exists south of the City on Col. Talbot. If you are linking the two parts up via Veterans or even Highbury, it's a rather strange route.

Now if Highway 4 south of the City was renamed to Highway 3 south of Highway 401 or even Highway 402, perhaps that would have made more sense.

Update on progress to replace the CP bridge in this article.

http://www.lfpress.com/2017/07/12/lo...long-term-gain

Should be completed by end of 2018 and include widening to 4 lanes. If they are smart going to 6 lanes is forward thinking beyond 50 years from now.

Look forward to major improvement to traffic movement in that part of city when completed.

Also speaks to moving the Adelaide - CP project up from 2031.

That too will dramatically improve transit and traffic flows. Hopefully as early as 2019 as the site is construction ready now unlike the heritage battle at Wharncliffe - Horton CN bridge.

These choke points in our transportation road network have to be systematically eliminated.

As per the city's Facebook page...

The first train crossing over the temporary bridge at Oxford Street and Wharncliffe Road North this week!

With trains diverted, demolition of the existing CPR structure will commence immediately followed by construction of the new rail bridge. #LdnOnt

great news.

next year it's full speed ahead to build the new overpass and remove the temporary overpass and finally this major bottleneck can be removed.

Again with the London Facebook updates lol. Saw a message on their page today that the old bridge was supposed to be taken down last night overnight. Didn't make it up that to way to see if it actually was. I suppose that probably would be the end of the work until next spring, but you never know lol.

I suspect they will work right thru the winter carefully removing the old bridge abutments. They are pretty massive stone blocks and I suspect they will be carefully taken away and reused somewhere.
