I think it's pretty awesome that Foster Ave right now has 2 tower cranes on it. I can look in both directions of the street and see tower cranes. This has got to be the only street with 2 cranes up at this time.

A while ago I saw a post about rehabbing the building at Randolph and Elizabeth St. I was walking by this today and it was full steam ahead with interior work. Nothing had been done on the exterior as of yet. Does anyone remember this, or have a link to the proposal? IIRC they weren't making any drastic changes to the exterior, just changing out the windows and such.

So I was driving home from work today and noticed more extensive work going on at the vacant building near Broadway and Waveland that Walmart was reportedly going to be moving into. Is that a done deal? Does anyone know anymore information regarding this? They have completely torn up the parking lot to the south of the structure and have made a large opening in the wall for an entrance at the parking lot!

Supposedly yea, Walmart doesn't make a lot of noise prior to opening one of these. I've been watching them work on the store at Chicago and Franklin for a while now too.

I'm ok with Rahm I'm angry about his destruction of Landmark Commission.

Absolutely terrible decision. Also, pandering to CME which he is connected to is very questionable. Overall I like him, but I'm not ready to say he is doing an "amazing" job when stuff like this goes down.

Do you know how much of the space they plan to occupy? The building is 3 stories, and for the past month or so they have been gutting the top 2 floors on the inside and doing major amounts of work!

The top two floors are full of self-storage units. A few weeks ago I saw a stop work order on the front door, and two cops checking out the building.

So long as they don't get the great idea to cut down through the granite base on the front of the building to expand the frontage windows I am fine with it... those bricks can always be replaced later down the road.

I am concerned however with what is going on at 3642, the annex building just to the North. Recently the upper windows were removed and haven't been replaced in a few days.

All you need to do is put in a little metal plaque in the concrete at the property line and public easements can't be established.

The hotel looks great!

BTW, the new Halsted Street bridge has been installed. But the north approach span has not yet been built.

While that is true, it doesn't eliminate the liability concerns of having the public crossing through a plaza where ice could be falling or any other number of potential concerns.
