As much as I liked the former design, this new one is great and will, in addition, be great for the skyline as a whole.
Another note, I like how he still vaguely has SLS in the renderings. He seems to be as optimistic as ever
What do they have there across Pine from this building? There's nothing of that height there.

That's Symphony House.

What's with the banner over the entire length of the adjacent building? It was not covered like that in the original Hyde render. Will it be part of this project? Guess not...

I agree. Maybe the interior will be real special, and attract the buyers. I don't know what I was expecting since Baker is a pretty much a vanilla architect. But this new design seems very predictable, not too bad, and not too good.

But a whole lot better then what is there now. Now, here's hoping Carl & company doesn't continue to want to do SLS first, with all its ongoing delays. If he wants to hold out hope that the State is actually going to give that project $19M, then I hope he puts his energies into getting this built soon, while this cycle is still in its build stage.

Except it's fading faster than the people in Marty McFly's photograph. Just hope, like in the movie, it returns to life.

Seriously though, a much different building than what we had previously saw. Architecturally, they both elicit the same reaction - decent but nothing mind blowing, which I suppose is a win from the developer who gave us Symphony House. It's certainly not bad but it does have a very generic look to it. Citywide used the term "vanilla" which I think is very appropriate here. Ultimately, it will come down to the materials and execution. Hey, I hope this gets built!

You know what it really looks like - another Cecil Baker design - the back side (non-glass side of 500 Walnut).

That said, it's alright -- build it asap.

Agree. Build it. But Cecil's recent designs have all been blah (if not affirmatively bad). We need the architect who designed the Bridge to design more Philly projects. Innovative use of standard materials and a very striking building for its size (and probable budget). Or if we're going traditional, more Mormon Towers...

^Agreed. How did Cecil Baker become the go-to architect in this town? And he sits on the CDR board like the high counsel for architecture... yet there's nothing particularly distinct or innovative about those recent Baker designs. He's no Rems Koolhaus!

While this is indeed incredibly awesome overall for that area, the design is definitely just a slightly different take on the same stuff Baker has been putting out recently. However, I do like how thoughtful they were about removing curb cuts and putting retail entrances on Broad and the residential entrances on Pine; from a function standpoint, it makes all kinds of sense.

And to agree with the points above, a few more Gluck+ designs (like bridge.) would be very much welcomed.

In all honesty, I would love to see a building like the Alexander in the 600 foot range. I know it's not going to happen, but it would be nice to see a tall Art Deco-esque building, as we never actually got one.
