This new video from McAllister Place: https://www.facebook.com/McAllisterP...7324315364555/ shows off two new retailers coming soon to the mall. (Urban Planet and The Brick). They are hoping to be open in Summer 2020.

Also, in the above video I spotted that Maritime Travel got an upgrade to their storefront as well! Looks nice!

Signage is up for The Brick at McAllister Place. From online chatter I've seen, they might be opening the first weekend of June. We shall see.

Work On Fairville Boulevard Before Lancaster Mall Improvements

https://www.country94.ca/2020/05/27/...fNuug8YRjrvBm0

Quote:
The Lancaster Mall area is a target for expansion in order to drive more usage to the west side’s shopping area.
City council voted on the first two readings of a bill to approve a partial street closure on Fairville Boulevard in order to begin construction on commercial developments.

Ben Cressman with Strathallen Capital says the hope is that by beginning the work, west side residents will utilize the area more regularly.
“We really hope that it’s a springboard, and will help gain some momentum for our ultimate project: Lancaster Mall,†Cressman said during a public hearing portion of Monday’s council meeting.

There is no set schedule for work on the west side mall.

“As everyone knows, it needs some TLC and attention,†said Cressman.

Council approved the first two readings of the street closure, and a third will come forward at a subsequent meeting.

Their new store at McAllister Place will be opening soon.
And I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like. I'm sure it looks amazing.

Apparently, La Senza will not be reopening at McAllister Place. A sign is now posted that they are now permanently closed. This now just leaves 2 lingerie stores at McAllister Place (La Vie en Rose and Lilianne). https://www.facebook.com/groups/1690...0805205152174/

This area of the mall was formerly part of Sears. It's been renovated to house Mark's and The Brick as well as Urban Planet.

It's around 18,534sq.ft. It's in the newly redeveloped section of the mall (former Sears).
This new section of the mall (100,000sq.ft.) also houses the recently opened The Brick (36,500sq.ft) and Mark's (18,907sq.ft).

This permit application (that was submitted yesterday) confirms Bluenotes is coming soon to Lancaster Mall on the west side.

Sources say that if things don't change, YM Inc. will be opening a "Thriftys" (an extension of Bluenotes) in the former Urban Planet spot at Lancaster Mall. So stay tuned, because if this is Thriftys then this will be something new & different.

Edit - another source says it will be a " Thriftys Plus " an outlet store.

Thriftys by Bluenotes is NOW OPEN! at Lancaster Mall, on the west side. (Officially opened today, June.29th, 2020). They're located in the former Urban Planet. Store hours are: Mon-Sat: 11am-7pm, Sun: Closed. (Same hours as the mall).

They are part of Bluenotes and are basically an outlet store. The store manager confirmed that they will have lots of clearance and they also carry some Aéropostale as well. This new store is in addition to the current "Aéropostale X Bluenotes" (shop in shop) location over at McAllister Place, so SJ now technically has 2 Bluenotes stores.

Mall Eatery Closes For Good

https://www.country94.ca/2020/07/19/...sD6rrmaFte0xPE

Quote:
A mainstay in the Brunswick Square food court is closing for good.

Deluxe French Fries will not reopen as the owners decided not to renew their lease when it expires at the end of this month.

Nicole Hurley of Mac’s Foods Limited, parent company for the Saint John-area location, said the Brunswick Square eatery was open for thirty years.

Five employees have been offered positions at one of the regional locations.

Hurley says most of their workers who were laid off because of COVID-19 and wanted to come back have but they have also hired some new staff.

The restaurant dining rooms will stay closed in favour of the takeout windows added during the pandemic so stand-alone locations could stay open.

First, I want to say that it sucks to hear the story of the closure of the Brunswick Square Deluxe French Fries location. My thinking is that I hope that they can find a new spot to open somewhere in the Uptown core, maybe on King St. if they can hack it, so that it's presence in the core can possibly be expanded beyond 30 years. To me, it's only fitting to have a good, quick option for seafood uptown, given the close proximity of the Harbour.

Now, to the real reason I'm here right now.

I had some thoughts about the whole 'dual Irving' gas station thing that exists in West Saint John, in the area of both Main St. West and Fairville Boulevard, and I think I know how that can be resolved.

For the Fairville Boulevard location, which is currently labeled as a 'Big Stop', to me, there's not really anything 'Big' about it. At least, not in comparison with other 'Big Stop's out there.

The way that I can see a true 'Big Stop' located in that part of the city is for the Irvings to buy the former Cox building, which I believe is still vacant, and, in a necessary sacrifice, tear it down.

That would then give the trucks a proper spot to park on that property, and allow for addition of potential scales and a truck wash, in addition to the usual fuel station.

The rest of that land would then see a full Big Stop facility built, with standard gas station, convenience store, full sit-down restaurant, and trucker's pit stop, complete with laundry room, shower room, and even sleeping quarters for the ones who've been on the road a long time, and require more than just their standard cab bunk.

It would also have free Wifi(tested to meet the requirements of all major anti-malware providers), couch space w/TV for news, and the quarters possessing proper AC and heating for either a cool or warm sleep, depending on season.

That would probably make that potential Irving Big Stop the only one located in an urban atmosphere, and yes, the regular residents of the Saint John area would also be able to use the gas station, convenience store, and restaurant to chow down too.

And, if enough space is left over, squeeze a car wash(full type, where your car moves on a track, like on City Road) onto that property as well. Get them Buick's nice and shiny( ).

Now, onto the Main St. West Irving gas station.

With the above that I just mentioned going onto that Fairville Boulevard spot, this would mean that there would no longer be a need for the smaller location on Main West. And this is my replacement idea for that.

First, all Irving logos and whatever are finished on that whole patch of land. Also, the existing fuel tanks underground would be removed.

In it's place would see the construction of...

A] a new Scholten's Convenience store, requiring property realignment,

B] new gas pumps/fuel tanks,

and, if possible, C] a touchless car wash.

The Esso on the corner of Church and Manawagonish is evidence that a touchless car wash can fit on the current Main West Irving station lot.

The new company in charge of the gas sales there would be Petro-Canada. As Shell is already down the street, and an Esso is directly across the road, P-C would need to go there to keep competition alive, unless Shell chose to place a bid as well, and agree to close their station located across the street from the Moosehead brewery.

So, any thoughts from you guys on this?
