Look up pictures of stand alone Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, taco Bell, or subway with a drive thru. These are all franchised, so 99% will look the same across America. Whichever is being built there won't look special, I can guarantee that.

The 1st building in the development was issued a permit back in April. Curious if anybody knows if that building has been built yet.

Overall, this entire site has been pretty industrial for a long time. I believe part of it was a scrap yard. It's not too far from the Ashland Orange Line stop. Fully expecting some new Chinese restaurants over there.

Reminder:
The scrapyard was cleared out in mid 2019, but the buildings remain on the site, including those fronting Archer Avenue. For whatever reason, larger projects in Chinatown tend to move at a glacial pace, such as the 2 story retail building now finally wrapping up at Canal/Archer. I’m out of town through the week, but I’ve been meaning to get over there to photograph the existing buildings before they come down, I better hustle if another building permit was released.

Btw, the site has been a scrapyard for roughly a century. I’ve seen a circa 1930 areal photo of the neighborhood and the the same scrapyard was in it. There is also a 4 story 3 DU over retail building almost across the street filling in a vacant lot which is topped out as well.

Also, the units in this scrapyard project are super cheap, pre-construction pricing for 1 beds started at $180K. Probably very tight on square footage, but still very reasonable for new construction; but you know the entire city is in the midst of a ‘affordable housing CRISES’

Yeah. The company behind these developments does have a minority partner in Good Fortune stores. IIRC, someone reported the big project at Cermak and the river (hotel, grocery, restaurants, etc) as moving along as of a few months ago. They are behind that. They also have in the works a few other larger developments.

As always, curious about the new hotel in Chinatown on Wentworth that was permitted over 2 months ago. For some reason the media has missed the fact that they might have already started construction on that.

Sorry to backtrack a little - I assume those angled supports are so that they can be mounted on top of the existing pilings?

No brand new piles - angled so they didn't need to mount on the edge of the slipway ?

they're not as sexy as the big towers going up downtown, but in aggregate they have a bigger impact on the overall fabric of the city, IMO.
Yes but OMG @ the massive expanses of brick. This developer MO needs to be curbed ASAP. I swear on some of these the planes of undifferentiated brick are wider than the windows!

The very definition of a ground scraper. Some pretty nice brick work as well!

Logan Crossing has a big impact on the area. It used to be the 1 story Mega Mall. One of the times we visited this summer, we were in Logan Square and walking by it...it's huge. It's not super tall, but the area it takes up is huge. Nice change for the area IMO. Good density.

Logan is now incredibly dense. Pretty crazy how much it's blown up.

Depends on where in Logan Square. As a whole community area, it's actually been losing population, but of course some tracts have gained, some have lost.

I have lived in Logan Square for awhile... it feels like the single family home conversions have started slowing down and more multi units are being added all over the place, I feel like this year or next, the neighborhood should be gaining population again.

Improving but a ways to go.... Still many large vacant lots, parking lots, large vacant retail building, etc. along Milwaukee Ave.
