Google Tower's going to impact this view in a pretty substantial way, IMO.

Yep, that’s a great shot.

Why the heck is that parking lot on Congress/4th still there? Crazy talk.

Right? At this point, I'd be surprised if the revenue from the parking lot can even pay the property taxes on that land...

TBH, there're a few open lots right off Congress that are mysteries to me. The parking lot at 3rd street (right beside the Austonian) is a major one, but so is the one across 3rd street where all the food trucks are -- NW corner of 3rd and Congress.

Years ago, there was some sort of procedural item filed WRT the rest of the Austonian block. It was pulled back not long afterwards though. I don't recall if it was a CVC determination or what, but it made it appear as if a new building might be announced. Nothing ever came to fruition though.

It's a weird block -- lots of surface parking, and the rest taken up by the Google Fiber space, which is at most two stories tall. The location is so primo, though . . . literally in the center of everything.

I've wondered about those lots fronting Congress and the only reasonable conclusion that I can think of is maybe whoever is holding on to them is waiting for the "perfect opportunity" to either build or to sell to a developer that would build to the maximum potential. Maybe they are waiting for city to change code requirements to build really tall highrises. At least one can hope..

I think the Google Fiber building and the rest of the block around the Austonian are owned by World Class Capital

I've always thought that would be a great spot for our Ritz Carlton. It would have classy frontage on Congress and Second Street

Yep. It's owned by Nate Paul so we can go ahead and count on nothing ever being developed there.

All this talk about parking lots still on Congress has me wondering about the big parking lots at 11th and Congress? The one next to 1005 Congress and also the lot across the street from the governor's mansion....will we see anything developed on those lots in the next 10-15 years? They probably can't be very tall because of the capitol overlay radius or whatever but I've always dreamed of some nice infill in those spots to complete the canyon down Congress.

That's West Courtyard Drive off 360. Here's the Google Streetview of it. That's even the same car parked in the street on Google as in the photo above.
