Leonardtown is a town in southern Maryland, and is the seat of St. Mary's County. It has a population of around 3,800.
Leonardtown was named after Benedict Leonard Calvert, who was governor of Maryland from 1727 to 1731. The town was laid out in 1708 after county court was held in houses in the area beforehand. Leonardtown remains the only incorporated town in the county, serving a county seeing growth from the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
