Odd that NSLC didn't build a store while the Sobeys was being built. There was no doubt there is enough of a market in that location.

It will be nice to have the Kearney Lake connector road in. Also, Allnovascotia said that Universal Properties has just started working on 2-12 storey buildings off Larry Uteck.

At the corner of the Pharmasave parking lot (Southgate/Larry Uteck) there is a gravel pad roughed out with a paved (and paint-labeled) drive-through area. Does anyone know any plans or rumours for that spot? Looks like there's room enough for a small restaurant; maybe an express McDonald's or Hortons?

Burger battle heats up with Bedford diner acquisition
January 3, 2012 - 5:28pm BY BILL POWER BUSINESS REPORTER
Quote:
The battle for consumers’ burger dollars will heat up in 2012 after the acquisition of the True North Diner in Bedford by Halifax’s Grafton-Connor Group.

...

The first Pizza Pizza in the region opened recently on Grafton Street and preparations are underway at 3514 Joseph Howe Dr. for a second. A third will open in the spring at Hemlock Square, near Larry Uteck Boulevard. The plan is to eventually open 10 to 15 Pizza Pizza locations in the region.

From what I remember Pizza Pizza isn't very good. It's always been really greasy when I've had it.

That article is also somewhat incorrect -- the SUB at Dalhousie had Pizza Pizza a few years ago. I am not sure if it is still there.

Yeah there has also been a Pizza Pizza at the cafeteria of the VG hosiptal for years and there is also one in Empire Theatres Bayers Lake. http://www.empiretheatres.com/theatr...es-bayers-lake

The Pizza Pizza at the SUB is still there according to this: http://dsu.ca/inner.php?page=5&sub1=112. Looks like there is a Quzinos, Just Us Coffee, Booster Juice and a Timmies at the DAL SUB too.

So that would make 6 Pizza Pizzas in Halifax, when Jo Howe and Hemlock Square locations open.

This is the rendering on the trailer for "The Abigail" it was quite foggy, so the quality isn't the best. Doesn't really look like an all too inspireing design, but it will be 12 floors. Looks like it will be pretty much all pre-cast, which can happen as this is not in the Shaw-owned lands that have a requirement to contain a certain percentage of brick.

The black panels and window proportions on the front of the building have an Art Deco sort of look to them. Not sure how great it will turn out if it's all precast.

Hamachi Group growing again
January 16, 2012 - 8:21pm BY COLLEEN COSGROVE BUSINESS REPORTER

Quote:
Asian, Mediterranean restaurants opening in Bedford

The finishing touches on two new restaurants are underway, but they could be the last two additions to join the Hamachi Restaurant Group family.

One restaurant at a time, the group has beefed up its cultural dining lineup, offering everything from sushi to Thai to European cuisine.

Ten years after the group’s first restaurant, Hamachi House Fine Japanese Cuisine, opened its doors, Hamachi Mura Sushi & Thai and Son Vida — Tapas — Restaurante — Vino will open at the new Southgate Village on Southgate Drive in Bedford the first week of March, bringing the group’s culinary offerings up to eight locations

A crane is half up for the Abigail, looks like it is the one from the Dockside on the Bedford waterfront.
