The problem is that as you defend NYC, you attempt to rip apart Hong Kong for all of the factors that New York lacks. You just sound envious.

Diminishing the colors, mountains, and bay in Hong Kong is simply stupid. I'm not sure how that isn't obvious.

I'm not 'ripping apart' Hong Kong, just saying how I see it and feel about, and that revolves around my own opinion, just as you have your own. I think you making more out of this.

I think NYC has the best nightime skyline because I think it does. That's just me. What I think isn't universal fact, it's just my own opinion, same as what I said regarding Hong Kong, all my opinion.

"Diminishing the colors, mountains, and bay in Hong Kong is simply stupid."
According to who? You? Well I call it my own taste in what I like in a city, and for me Manhattan is my like and taste, just as Hong Kong is yours. I think the colors in Hong Kong are guady and you think the Manhattan nightime skyline is boring and dull. OPINIONS, that is all what this is.

Your think New York lacks and I don't. That is you and this is me. How much clearer I need to be about this I don't know, but what I do know is that you are looking for something that isn't there and blowing this out pf proportion.

Just lay it to rest and move on.

BTW, the downtown L.A. at night skyline photos previously posted are poor examples, here are better examples of Downtown L.A.'s skyline at night:

I love L.A.'s skyline. It doesn't get enough credit.

Now, I'm not saying Cincinnati is a top WORLD skyline at night (oh hell no; not with the countless Asian cities that light up more than Snoop Dogg) but certainly is a nice one for North America:

I'm not a fan of LA. Looks like only a few lit up buildings, with the rest being the typical bland box with yellow interior lighting.

Honestly, people rip on LA's skyline too much. Is it small/moderate for a city its size? YES. Is it lacking architectual design? NO. I've always liked the views you get facing the mountains and US Bank tower is one of the most unique buildings in the U.S. The downtown is lit up well at night, not to mention that they have more than one "downtown" Century City's skyline is bigger than many large cities downtowns.

And yes Cincinnati's skyline is kick ass at night, especially if you can get a view that incorparates Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky's skyline. Just wait til Queen City Tower is comleted

I love night skylines that I can look at and feel like I'm going on a night on the town filled will all sorts of emotions of excitment as I anticipate the finest of dining, the best of entertainment, and people I can happily share it with. The picturesque skyline that I see in books (not city-specific, but just buildings with lights). I love skylines with spotlights. And roadways and highways that spine from the core outward.

For some reason or another, the two cities that give me that emotion the most are New York and Chicago.

I think colors look cool, but the above emotions that a skyline can give me will trump it. I'll take a sea of yellow lights if it just has that 'feel' to it. I almost can't describe it.

And Vancouver doesn't play a similar game with its abundance of rather nondescript residential skyscrapers?

I said before that Vancouver's night skyline sucks, backread a page or two. I never said Vancouver was better, so don't presume that to be my point. My point is that LA. sucks, Vancouver sucks, and for the record Chicago sucks too. New York is Alright from North bergen when the ESB is lit up, otherwise it sucks.

On a positive note; in my opinion, the best skylines are Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Las Vegas. Lots of light, lots of colour, lots of diversity in lighting design.

My top Canadian pick used to be a toss-up between Toronto and Montreal, but with the new LED lighting on Toronto's CN tower, the lake view of Toronto is spectacular by most North American standards. Best in the world? No where near, but it's the best we've got.

Hong Kong and Shanghai have more bland residential skyscrapers than they do glassy ones.

As for Las Vegas, well, it's rather unoriginal.

Here's a HK panorama I took in September 2006. Sorry, but there is simply no North American city that can compete with that.

I'd put HK way ahead of Shanghai. I'm not really all that impressed with Shanghai's night skyline. I mean, it's no doubt nice to look at, but it needs a lot of work in order to compete with HK.

Here are some of my Shanghai night shots

While I do wholeheartedly agree, these buildings tend to disappear in night shots.

Absolutely agree. At night, this is the BEST SKYLINE IN THE WORLD.

Does it matter? they still got more colour and light than any NA city, which really hits it home for how much NA sucks if HK is mostly "bland"

As for Vegas; In the daytime yea, but at night nothing can compete.

There is no debate. The subject is completely based on opinion, and therefore there is no right or wrong opinion. You and r@ptor are making the most common of mistakes in logic: opinions aren't facts.

Boise wins easy. End of debate.

How does that sound? I don't agree with it, much like I don't agree that Hong Kong or Shanghai have the best night skyline in the world. It all has to do with opinion. Therefore, no debate.

Anthony

Yeah, opinions are opinions... but it's like one person who would prefer a Kia over a Ferrari... you just look at them & go oh really?
