^^Classless animals, that's whats wrong. Unless the building was in serious disrepair, which it doesn't look like from the condition of the exterior masonry, there's no reason to destroy such fine craftsmanship.

still sad they couldn't incorporate the existing building in a meaningful way. Looks like they're replacing it with a more modern base structure covered in "brick" that's not even the same color as the remainder of the base, anyways... seems like an opportunity to do something like 601 W Randolph or various other west loop developments have planned/done

Yeah.. They could have incorporated it. It would have been more expensive, but if the city mandated it, the developer would have been required to incorporate the facade or not build. We need better landmarking in Chicago. In DC and Toronto, they allow facademies to preserve their mediocre old building where we demo outright gems left and right...
