I just quickly glanced at the numbers for Black Families vs Non-Hispanic White, in each of San Jose, San Fran and DC

That's still quite the disparity.

1.56:1 in SJ
1.68:1 in DC
2.03:1 in SF

Black families, range in those 3 communities from earning 49% to 64% of their white counterparts.

Assuming those are representative, that's quite disconcerting.

Just want to add a note thanking Diamondpark for his endless scouring of interesting data to discuss.

Interesting to see how different ethnicities fare in different areas. For example African American's having a higher income than Hispanics in Atlanta but Hispanics having a much higher income than AA's in Miami. In Miami, Whites have a substantially higher income than Asians for example.

I think these distinctions can largely be explained by the differing demographic typology.

So, for example, South Florida's AA median income is low(er) because it's heavily Haitian and immigrant, while South Florida's Hispanic median income is high(er) because it's a mecca for white, middle and upper class Latin Americans.

Very interesting depiction of the income gap in the urban areas of this country. I wouldn't be surprised if the gap is even wider in some of the rural areas of this country. OAN: Providence was rather surprising for African -Americans. Other than Brown University and it being the state capital, what else may account for the $76K+ median?

DC looks like the best metro for everyone, while having a significant population of all groups.

Baltimore has a very poor reputation, but it's right on the top in all the 4 lists.

Likely due to well paying jobs with the federal government.
