Sounds potentially to whimsical or idealistic to actually work.

Hope I'm wrong.

Anyone remember this http://www.mbccc.ca/wp-content/uploa...ompressed.pdf?

If they actually go thru with that in some meaningful way then a small stage in that area would probably do well. A nice little arts district.

Or is that project/proposal/concept dead at this point?

^that would be fantastic. I'd love for it to happen. It would really go a long way to making the area more cohesive

It’s not necessarily completely dead, but it is definitely shelved for now with the current provincial government. They don’t even want to fix the sound issue at the concert hall.

And considering the province has only pledged $2.5m in funding (possibly up to $5m if private sector also fundraises $2.5m) to celebrate Manitoba’s 150th... I don’t think anything happens on this before someone unseats the PCs.

That freestanding elevator/stair core is going to look so bizarre. I'm so curious to know the rationale.

The whole project is a bit bizarre IMO. Will be interesting to see how the stilted buildings end up fitting the site and surroundings.

And how many people turn the dark, sunken plaza into their homes.

So the render is all black metal finishes, and so far we have a mix of unpainted and white steel beams. Off to a good start.

^ if the steel stays bare - it would be painted towards the end of the construction.

However, I suspect the steel will need to be covered over (for fire resistance) and that will more likely be source of the black finish.

I'm just happy to see this thing moving. Need more residents right in that area.

The NDP government didn't want to fix it either. The issue is at least 5 years old. So don't blame the current government.

How long before they're at least equally to blame? Last I checked they've been in charge for over 3 years.

I didn't say it was there fault, if you read my statement. I said it's unlikely they'd fund the expansion plans when it's been very public they don't even want to fix issues in the existing building.

Isn't this a City building? Why doesn't the city fix it?

The Concert Hall is owned by a provincial crown corporation.

To buzzg's point, I don't think the current government is going to get on board with funding any ambitious expansion plans for the Manitoba Centennial Centre and fair enough... that's their prerogative. But I'd say that fixing the problem with the concert hall should be on the agenda.
