It appears that Princess Auto will be opening a store at East Point.
Just another example of Northrop stealing another store away from Saint John West!

How dare they be a more attractive place to set up business! Humbug!

The Princess Auto would've been West if the landowner had been prepared to offer them a fair price for the property, if I'm not mistaken.

East / West - its not that big of a deal to drive! People complain too much. I live in French Village and we go to the Irving Nature Park twice a week (when the weather's nice)

Yeah the East vs. West thing is a little silly. We're one city, and considering most people don't think anything of driving 15-25 km each way to work every day, the distance shouldn't be a big deal (especially since transit serves both areas ).

My main concern is why there is a car dealership in an area that was supposed to be an upper-class pedestrian friendly shopping centre. Seems counterintuitive to me.

Since when has East Point been pedestrian friendly? It's better than some of the East Side is, I'll give you that, but there isn't much pedestrian friendliness at a place like CostCo.

I figure the car store would serve to encourage the husbands of all those ladies to accompany them on their shopping trips and spend their money in our fine city (not being sexist but it seems many of the stores are more targeted towards women).

Besides, it could very well be placed next to Home Depot/Starbucks - it wouldn't be too out of place there.

Are you referring to Princess Auto? That isn't a car dealership.

It's not.. but JHikka's point is still valid. Princess Auto is not the best match for this development. It's some place you go when you need a spar part, or you're working on something and need a tool. It doesn't really fit into a "upper-class fashion centre" as they're trying to market this.

Home Depot isn't exactly 'upper-class' - this site plan shows alot of space right next door. I'm excited to see things fill in and a little more diversity would be nice.

Someone mentioned The Keg going in at East Point (rumor/fact?) - I would much rather see it on the waterfront but it could probably also work near the hotel at East Point. When things aren't covered in snow its a nice looking area.

Judging from the site plan you linked I would assume that if The Keg is going in at East Point that it would be in the same area as Montana's/Starbucks.

I, too, would much prefer to see The Keg Uptown/Waterfront.

As a business, it would be stupid for them to go West, instead of East. It makes perfectly good business sense to be at East Point, next to Costco. Just be happy it's going to be here.

I actually don't mind Princess Auto going into east point. It is more than just a traditional Auto parts store.

. It's like Canadian Tire minus the sporting goods, housewares, etc...
It's very popular - I have friends drive to Moncton just to go there

Who the hell cares though?

East Saint John is the regional shopping district. Putting a new business on the comparative no-mans-land of the West Side when there are opportunities East would be economical suicide. God forbid a company make a wise business choice instead of catering to people like you who seem to think East SJ and West SJ are two separate entities... what is this, Germany in the post-war period? Is the Harbour Bridge our Berlin Wall?

There is nothing "Upperclass" at or about East Point.
