Awesome work with it a huge task. It really does suck that most south americans probably compltely overlook there own cities when doing things like making models or databases.

well, considering there are so few brazilians here at SSP, its no wonder the diagram database for brazilian cities is quite incomplete.

the Emporis database is quite good on the other hand... many contributors.

Plaza de Las Torres, not important residential towers away from downtown I only did because a guy who lives there and helped me with the photos for texturing the 3d buildings, asked me to model it.

Edificio Consórcio

Ed Chaves

Cosmopolitan Center (one of the few buildings in old downtown built after the 80s)

Oi Telecom

TRF4 (Tribunal Regional Federal 4a Região - Federal Regional Court 4th Region)

Iberê Camargo Museum (project by Alvaro Siza)

Palácio Itália (before and after... the "before" model was done by someone else... bad texturing and lacking 90% of the details)

Costa Faria

Conde de Porto Alegre

Ed. Nova York

Check out google earth, he's got loads in there. Good job Trantor, how long before you've modelled every building in Porto Alegre?

so far, 41 models have been accepted at GoogleEarth, out of 51 GoogleEarth models I uploaded. But there 10 new models were uploaded in the last week, so I expect to have at least 50 models accepted in GoogleEarth by the end of this week.

Great effor here! Have you taken the photos for the textures yourself, or where did you get them? If you took them, then how did you manage to make them look so "head on"? I mean they don't look like they've been taken from the street level but from an helicopter or somewhere else high.

Vellu... every option is true...

I took many photos myself (when I ocasionally go to Porto Alegre... I live 40km north of Porto Alegre, on the northern edge of its metro area)

other photos I find at Panoramio... other photos I get with friends from Porto Alegre, including the owner of the site Porto Imagem, as well as an Emporis editor from Porto Alegre who photographed lots of buildings in the city, and other sources too. Some building photos were taken from street level. Others from other buildings (providing less perspective).

Photos with less perspective are much more important for buildings with balconies.... either way, in some cases the best thing to do is to "divide and conquer"... that is... divide the textures in its useful parts, and multiply them across the building.
