HALIFAX - United Gulf / Texpark towers

United Gulf Developments - condo/hotel towers

Architect: Hariri Pontarini Architects (Toronto)
Height: about 85 metres
Floors: 27
Size: 700,000 sq. feet (250 residential units)
Cost: $150 million CAD
Status: Approved
Website: http://www.unitedgulf.ca/
Description: Two towers (one hotel, one condo) to be built on the former site of a 50s-era parking structure. The building will have street-level retail, as well as offices and conference space in the four-storey base. Various other features are also planned, such as streetscape beautification and a rooftop green space between the two towers. Groups such as the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia say the building isn't "in keeping" with the surrounding buildings (which include the un-historic rears of two registered heritage buildings), and therefore shouldn't be built () but it's likely it'll go through fine anyway. Construction should start sometime later in the decade!

Cool! I hope it goes through. Although I support such protectionist and preservation groups most of the time, Halifax needs another tall one. (I love the city, would move there in a second), and since this building will be built on top of a parking lot or non important existing building, let it rise, baby!!!!!!! This would be an awesome addition to the Halifax skyline.

That isn't just good for Halifax, it's good Period! Great design, and congratulations on them for getting it built (hopefully that group won't get in their way too much.)

Martime Canada and Halifax can`t reject it when developers want to get up that kind of major league building!

Heritage nymbies don`t understand economic fact and Halifax development!
