For the sake of Ontario.

We need to get things fixed now and, the world is in fiscal distress. We already pay huge taxes in Ontario, the headlines in the papers announce that Ontario will be directly affected by a downturn ib the US and the NDP announce that they will pay the cops to enforce a 1 meter safety zone for bicyclists and push for Ontario wine in the LCBO.
Remember Bob Rae and the cast of uselessness.
Absolute no grasp of our current fiscal situation. Always always a safe topic.
I saw Rob Ford on the redneck news, Sunnewsnetwork and he understands our, the average guys concerns.
Andrea wake up!

If Hudak was taking a more hardline approach, I think he'd be over 50% in the polls right now.

You gotta be kidding me. Ford's been spending like a maniac! Not exactly fiscal.

Trust keeps McGuinty in contention ahead of Ontario dogfight
ADAM RADWANSKI
From Monday's Globe and Mail
Published Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 6:30AM EDT

Quote:
Far from an inevitable comeuppance for Dalton McGuinty, as much of the coverage over the past couple of years has suggested, it appears the Oct. 6 election is well and truly up for grabs. What was briefly a yawning lead for Tim Hudak’s Progressive Conservatives has, according to a new Nanos Research survey, shrunk to a few percentage points as Ontarians have begun to pay closer attention to their province’s politics.

Mr. McGuinty’s Liberals, the poll says, now have the support of 37.6 per cent of voters, relative to 42.1 per cent for the Tories.

According to the survey, there is not a single issue on which Mr. McGuinty is less trusted than his opponents – including even taxes and electricity costs, which are widely perceived to be his biggest vulnerabilities.

That Mr. McGuinty is still trailing at all with those numbers suggests that the biggest threat to his momentum – and the reason he still faces an uphill battle to win a third term – is simple voter fatigue, rather than unrest over specific decisions he’s made.

Based on official polling, it looks like my assumptions are turning out to be correct: McGuinty's sole problem is that he's been in power for many years. People actually trust the Liberal vision and the performance of his government over the Conservatives on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. The only thing keeping him back is voter fatigue.

^^You don't even need to follow news or polls to know people think McGuinty's been in power too long. And it's true, he has been in power too long. The main problem here is that a Hudak government could be even more disastrous than the Harris government was. But voters will cut off their nose to spite their face.

Bornagainbiking: All I can say is that I wish things really were as simple as you and Ford think they are.

Here's hoping Ontarians make the right decision and continue to trust the Liberals. If only Dalton had stepped aside to let someone else run.

Why is it that Alberta will vote Conservative for decades, but Ontarians are worried about a simple 3rd term for the governing Liberals? I mean better leadership over the issues that are important to voters seems to be more important than voter fatigue. Alberta has had a Conservative government since 1971...

It's what Albertans do. They're still angry about the National Energy Program of 1980.

Notice in that poll the PC's were unchanged but the Liberals gained at NDP and Green expense. That suggests a lot of left-leaning voters are scared of a Hudak government and may coalesce around one party. The NDP need to try to change the momentum into their favour like Layton did.

Yes, because that has worked out so well for us left-leaning voters!

Hudak unclear on uploading commitments

Provincial Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak isn’t saying whether his government will upload all the social service costs passed down to municipalities in the 1990s — a move that stands to add millions to Hamilton’s bottom line.

Hudak says if he’s elected to the Ontario legislature on Oct. 6, his government will continue to pay for programs that have already been uploaded back onto the province’s books.

“For the billion dollars that has been uploaded to the provincial coffers, we will honour that commitment to date,” Hudak told The Spectator in an interview Thursday.

However, Hudak would not say whether his government would continue to take back the remaining costs that haven’t yet been uploaded — a process that isn’t expected to be complete until 2018.

Hudak appeals to our wallets

Here’s the thing about appealing to the lowest common denominator: It usually works. Provincial Conservative Leader Tim Hudak and his brain trust — some of the same political strategists who helped Mike Harris win two consecutive majority governments — know that, and they’re using that unflattering reality to good advantage.

Hudak and friends understand that Ontarians are feeling financially pinched — especially the middle class. Wages, at least in the private sector, are stagnant or restrained. The cost of living — food, gas, utilities and the like — are steadily increasing. People want and need a break, and they’re probably going to support a provincial leader who promises it. It’s that simple.

Hudak says he’ll take the provincial share of the HST off home heating costs and remove the Ontario Hydro debt retirement charge from power bills. That will save an average family $22 per month. That resonates. It’s true that a large part of the reason electricity rates have risen is that Ontario’s energy infrastructure is critically in need of upgrading and maintenance, and it’s also true that previous governments have ignored that for political reasons. Just as it’s true that it was the Harris Conservatives who drove electricity deregulation to begin with, and so created the original price spikes we’re all suffering through now.

Doesn’t matter. Hudak is offering to save money on the monthly utility bill, and that’s all many Ontarians need to hear.

Mike Harris knew this when he promised to reduce taxes by 30 per cent as part of the Common Sense Revolution. It later turned out Ontario paid for that promise in many ways tangible and intangible. But it worked, and there’s a growing chance it will work for Hudak, too.

One month and on the countdown!

The propaganda machines are running and gaining speed every day.
Between the taxman and the Hudak the villain to Ontario families.
I read a piece yesterday that I liked: finally someone is going to or "promised" to eliminate the Hydro past debt that we still pay every months, also take HST off hydro and heating.
Some say this will be an interesting race according to the polls, but I don't see any excitement. Seems like we are just waiting for the envelope The "envelope please" to see who the next person is to mismanage Ontario.
Like the lesser of the available evils. I only suggest that we be very careful as NDP is an excellent advocate for the people on minor subjects, and never get involved in major issues. Like the Bob Rae fiasco be aware that we don't provide too many social advocates as they would have difficulty in forming an effective government.
Don't fall for the sad ploy of using the memory of Jack to influence the rise of the Orange Crush. Remember the majority of their new found support is in Quebec and I feel that is a one shot affair or a total rebuild of the national NDP?
I hope this all works out as the Dalton gang is more concerned on trivial points while Rome burns. They gotta go.

Yes, because the American-style (read: disastrous failure) politics and ideas of Hudak is such a great alternative.

How are they going to eliminate the hydro debt? Wave a magic wand and make it disappear? Cook the books like Harris and Eves did to make it look like we are in better financial shape than we really are? Take out a Payday loan for only 21.5% interest?

Liberal platform leak

"Adam Radwanski, Globe online service, Monday 5 Sept 2011
Dalton McGuinty makes electoral pitch to women, seniors and New Canadians.

"Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals are making a bargain-basement pitch for the groups of voters they would need to win a third majority government in Ontario – women, seniors, and new Canadians.

The province’s governing party will release its full platform on Monday, two days before the official start of this fall’s election campaign. But large chunks of it, leaked on Sunday to the Canadian Press, show that the Liberals will try to appeal to voters on core issues such as health care, education and transportation while spending only an additional $1.5-billion annually by the final year of a four-year mandate – a far more modest commitment to new programs than Mr. McGuinty’s previous platforms."

Ipad

Tried to but cut and paste is proving trying. It is today's G&M.
A key issue in the just released Liberal party lies.
I found this from a friend's email.

"Instead of addressing Ontario’s debt and deficit, he has made new promises like the $10,000 Affirmative Action for Foreign Workers program that helps those outside Ontario get jobs in the province and leaves out Ontario workers."
Sounds like last years plan to give Ontario university spots to outside students.
How about being like Quebec and let our kids get affordable eduction. Maybe help our kids get a crack at a job for the experience and education
What are they thinking? with suggestions like this I may go green.
