A "not so" great Canadian bridge living its last moments with what is left of it afar and in background the new Samuel-De Champlain bridge.

^Nice shots and that's neat for me as the first one captures a friends condo and the second my father's old office.

Handsome bridge. Made better with the pedestrian walkway.

The Indigenous public art on the underside of the walkway is beautiful as well:

I also like that they recreated some of the names that were scratched into the wooden rails on the old bridge.

Where was that taken? Looks like an old swing-bridge in the left foreground -- was it for rail or autos, to cross the canal? Is it still operating?

Great photo.

It's a part of the old Champlain bridge on a barge being shipped away I believe.

Exactly. It's the part Of the old Champlain Bridge that was over the Seaway canal. We can see afar the gap. This part is going to be dismantled in the spring and it seems they have "park it" a few KM away for the winter.

Ah, thanks! I saw the gap but wasn't aware they were taking parts of the old bridge down in large pieces like that and didn't make the connection.

Old steel to be recycled for use in new structures. (perhaps that may even happen in Hamilton! though there are steel plants in Montreal)

Here's a bridge that changes every year if not every day.

Alberta Highway 59 at the peace river.

Last time I was on it was about 28 years ago and it was melting.

This will be a very important 'bridge'/connection for cyclists and walkers alike.

Alexandra Bridge Replacement Impact Assessment.

https://iaac-aeic.gc.ca/050/document...44/143288E.pdf

Some images posted on Rail Fans Canada Discord:

The current 120+ year old bridge set to be replaced:

https://heritageottawa.org/alexandra-bridge

The bridge is used by 9% of interprovincial vehicular traffic in Ottawa and 33% of interprovincial active transportation crossings. It connects the Museum of Civilization (History) in Hull to the National Art Gallery and ByWard Market in Ottawa.

They should save the current bridge. Old steel frame bridges are much more interesting then most modern structures.
