relatively recent image showing the core of downtown, from this summer. image is from the Idaho Statesman. many of the under-construction projects are just off the right side of this photo.

a couple of newer renderings for the 28-floor condo proposal, which i believe has been approved (not 100% sure though).

here are a couple of renderings of the St Luke's hospital expansion. the garage on the lower right is complete, and the rest of the lot is fenced off, but no word when construction on the new patient tower will begin.

nice update!

might as well add this to the list... this proposal was just approved by the CCDC over two others to rebuild the downtown YMCA. it still has to go through multiple approval processes but if built it will really add some nice density to the northern edge of downtown.

I liked the architecture of the PEG proposal a lot more. SLC will take that if Boise doesn't want it!

architecturally, i agree. it was the most modern design of the proposals.

however, i thing they chose the right one based on the full proposal. this one encompassed multiple buildings over three city blocks and a lot of nice touches and amenities.

the design will probably change 30 times as it goes through the approval processes, and i wouldn't be surprised if it gets scaled down a little (like most projects around here seem to do), so perhaps the design will evolve to something more modern or elegant.

the 19-story Ovation just cleared another hurdle, so it looks like a go. the developer hopes to break ground in June.

image is from the Idaho Statesman. for those who don't know the area, there are multiple 7-8 floor buildings on the upper left not shown in this rendering, and a 19-story condo on the parking lot just down the street to the left, so this area will soon be much denser than what the rendering indicates.

The Ovation is going to tower over Trader Joe's. Maybe someday the grocery store lot will be redeveloped with another tower with Trader Joe's as street level retail.

after initially being rejected, this 18-flloor condo project has been approved for Garden City (image from boisedev.com):

if built, it will be the tallest building in Idaho outside of Boise, even though it will only be about a mile west of downtown Boise.

Have the leaders that be in the greater Boise metro mentioned anything about a metro system? Need to at least start planning the growth there is insane.

I will let the Boise local answer but there was discussion of a streetcar a few years ago.

they've been talking about a metro system for years, if not decades.

our former mayor was aggressively seeking to build a downtown streetcar system as a starting point that would eventually expand and connect to other parts of the valley. but whining about funding (among other things) killed any chance of seeing it become a reality:

https://boisedev.com/project/downtow...tor-streetcar/

our current mayor has more of a "wait and see" attitude hoping that a new cheap transit solution or technology appears:

https://boisedev.com/news/2020/01/13...se-circulator/

interestingly, the Boise metro did have a very nice and expansive streetcar system 100 years ago, and some of the original tracks are still buried under the streets.

meanwhile, the Treasure Valley today has zero movement on improving transit other than widening the interstate and building more expressways.
