It was announced that there's gonna be an 800 footer right next to the supertall. Architecture looks so similar you'd swear it's a redesign of the supertall lmao. Austin is on a roll!

The site plan revision went into formal review last week, and the elevations were released for AULCC today. The 1,022' version is what has been filed with the City, so it's officially a supertall now since we now know what has been filed for the site plan revision.

Honest/Dumb question, but what qualifies a tower as "super tall"?

Is 1000' the threshold?

A supertall is defined by a height of 300 meters or 984ft.
Fun fact, there are only 2 supertalls in Texas. Both are located in Houston.

I wonder if this one will require a rotating spot light at the top.

The US is pretty much the only major country on the planet that goes by feet for its metric of choice. The rest of the world uses meters. So it's 300 meters, which is 984 feet.

Both supertalls in Texas right now are in Downtown Houston. If you count the antennae then Downtown Houston has 3 because One Shell Plaza is also greater than 300 meters.

It's still stunning that we're getting one of these. The design isn't my cup of tea, but the fact that Austin is generating a building like this during a freaking pandemic is . . . really wild.

Why does the drawing on the left appear to have four fewer floors than the drawing on the right and yet they both show the same height?

Maybe you’re focusing on that whackadoo crown? It’s got some major elevation changes up there, and not in any uniform way.

I'm counting 32 floors above that middle part of the tower on the right and 28 floors on the left. I thought maybe they represented two different versions of the building, but the TOP OF TOWER numbers are the same...

Yeah. Left and right are drawn at two different sizes.

I don't know, the scale at the bottom says they're both at 1/64'' = 1 foot.

The windows are different in that West elevation as well as the floor count. It appears they may mistakenly used the old West elevation from the early renderings (like the one with show and ice) while the East, North & South elevations are the current version.

The height discrepancy in those elevations aside, I'm still not too sure about this one. Of course, I love the height. But when I look at those images, I can't stop thinking about the emperor's new clothes. That's an absolutely huge base; it would be weird for a 300' building to have a what amounts to a front and a back, but at 1000' it's even more strange; those seemingly last-minute flares/steps; the different floor heights and different siding between the upper and lower sections; that crown... I hate to say it, but this thing is downright ugly.

Are you sure that one is the incorrect one? I mean we DID mock them about them adding snow in the rendering.....
