but it should at least be recorded as a completed work that is due some respect, for the artist or artists that assembled it.
That artist has several bird and flower murals all over the city that pretty much look the same.

It's part of an arts project at Columbia College and is well-documented.

A few years ago I talked to an artist painting one of these murals on a now-demolished building. There's a selection process and they get paid to come to Chicago to do these paintings and document their work.

One of my favorites. I took a couple photos a few years back so I could have a copy framed at home

Beautiful shot, jc. I was sad to see Flyboy disappear behind 1136 S Wabash's parking garage. There was a slight chance the penetrations would be strategically punched out to let his flight entertain one or two parking levels, but I don't think that happened. I suspect these birds will suffer the same fate. Alas.

(Multilingual pun intended because "alas" means "wings" in Spanish.)

I see this stuff and I appreciate the talent of the artist, but the first thing that comes to mind is why do that to beautiful Chicago brick? Do that on a blank concrete wall somewhere.

So is the crane going to be going through the middle of the building as it rises like 110 wacker? If it is I'm wondering if anyone has a youtube video of how they fill the holes in each floor after they take the crane down..

On other buildings they have drilled horizontal holes in the slab and inserted re-bar once the crane sections are removed. They then frame and pour that "small" piece.

Easy: Most people don't appreciate brick the way people on here do much less Chicago Common. I would bet money the average person thinks it's ugly.

Do people on here appreciate brick? Everyone here was salivating for 300 N Michigan to get torn down. Did anyone speak on the historic or aesthetic value of that building or it's brick? At least the average person who doesn't post on this forum wasn't rooting for a nice brick building to be torn down.

I was not rooting for it to get torn down. I think most people who wanted to see it replaced simply like the new project that was replacing it more. But I'm confident most people on this forum have some respect for those kinds of older buildings. I know I absolutely do.

300N Michigan held zero historical or aesthetic significance

But this virus thing is concerning. How many people have lost enough of their nest egg to reconsider buying the unit now. This lockdown could go on for months.

Buildings in this low degree of building are the most vulnerable.

See Chicago spire due to the housing bubble and the Great Recession of late 07-08 and it took like 5 years to recover enough to go into another building boom. Even Waterview tower from Tang got a massive haircut.

I fear this could even be worse than the last Great Recession.
I just hope not.
