Proposed Youth Justice Center – 8 stories – Bonds just approved by city council, no timeline on construction


Little Bohemia (South of Downtown) – A developer has purchased the old Bohemian Café and surrounding buildings. Plans are to turn this area into the next Blackstone area. Several bars and shops have plans or have already opened, including another location for Infusion Brewery.

I think I got most everything recently completed and under construction in Downtown Omaha. Several long-term proposals and eye-popping rumors, but I will have to leave that for another future post.

Next post will be Midtown/North Omaha/Central Omaha.

It runs south down 10th Street by the CHI Center to Farnam then west to 42nd Street on Farnam St to the University Med Center and back down on Harney St.

That streetcar line will definitely be a game changer for Omaha. It's working fine down here in KC, where project after project is going up and/or being planned along the current line, and the expansion still under construction.

I have heard that, due to the streetcar, Hines has been reworking their plan for the Mercantile. It will supposedly include more residential and more office. I have heard from a couple independent sources that Medical Solutions is finalizing an agreement to move their HQ and 1,000 employees to the Mercantile.

Another update, is a new stadium for Union Omaha is being considered for North Downtown. My hope is that this ends up on Lot D, as it that lot will be a more awkward one to develop. But putting a soccer stadium, as well as the accompanying development mentioned in the article (hotel, residential, reatil/enertainment) would fill this massive surface lot nicely. It would be expensive but maybe there could be some below ground parking too.
