I hope you tipped your lovely tour guide, because you got an incredible thread out of it!

While it sometimes feels like I can cover more ground in less time when I'm out "touring" myself, there's nothing like the adrenaline rush you can get when you are out with someone who you're "on the same page" with. It's like you can almost feed of their energy.

I had a former co-worker, who used to talk a lot about growing up in and traveling back and forth to Rockford (to visit family during holidays)....This thread rings a lot of those stories to life to me in a new way.

Wow - ton of great buildings & beautiful detail.

I do better going alone, but it would be fun to have a companion on the same page, as Paradox21 said.

Rockford is an old warhorse of a town. Great terra cotta details.

Having never been to Rockford, it definitely fits what my vision of it is: a typical rustbelt city.

Love some of the historic buildings, I do hope they see investment and don’t end up all getting demolished.

I see why you would focus on that tiny, cute and genuine deco facade.

Wow, missed this thread the first time around. Nice to finally see the hometown of Fred VanVleet. We the North!

Obviously lots of history, but obviously lots of abandonment too. But living in a booming area, these kind of depressed places are becoming more and more interesting to me. Constantly moving forward, it's nice to take a step back once in a while.

Thanks harryc photos great. Almost like a quick trip there in person. Know Rockford much better now. Like your other viewers, I hope much can be saved soon. So many of our US cities, and villages can use jobs and investments. Seems like Illinois has a number of locations that are being overlooked. Thanks again.

Rockford's airport is a major UPS cargo hub and the airport is in the top 25 of US airports for air cargo. Hopefully this activity can create prosperity for the rest of the city.

300 block of Cole - 1945 subdivision.

With a convent on one side, and the river at the end of the street, big red brick and 4 floor plans is all you need.

big red brick.

of course some additions are made over time.

This model has a nice sunny corner

Not sure about this one.

The jumbo unit at the end of the street - facing the river - has seen better days, a real fixer upper.
