The "Lower Bottoms" is somewhat of a misnomer for the area that was once known as Oakland Point; in reality, below 7th Street and west of Mandela Parkway lays the true "bottom" of West Oakland, South Prescott. It is a somewhat eccentric area of sorts that reminds me a little bit of Jingletown albeit with more parkland. Both South Prescott and the Lower Bottoms are home to what's arguably Oakland's best collection of Victorian homes... there's some Victorian styles in the two neighborhoods that all but don't exist in the rest of the city. Both have been undergoing gentrification in the form of new condos, rehabbing of some of the Victorians and redevelopment of the Mandela/7th St corridor, the obvious reason being its extreme proximity to SF.
