Hard to tell, for sure, but based on the elevations, I would say that this is another meh...

Pretty meh but glass and concrete exterior is better than stucco or something like some of the other towers on Rainey.

Welp. It looks like a generic glass building on a parking structure. Par for the course it seems.

Wake me up when we actually get an interesting design in this city.

I actually like it. It's like a mix between 360 and The Whitley.

I'm with Kevin. It is what it is and the use is needed. Better yet, beats the hell out of what's there today.

I like it. It's a little different than the usual rectangle. But renderings are needed to get a better idea.

Is this going the length of the block (from Davis St. to Driskill St.)?

First impression...
Reminds me of a high rise condo bldg out of S. Florida. Looks like it belongs on a beach somewhere...

But I don't hate it.

In Sim City 2000, when property values get to a certain level and your Residential Zoning is set on high, one of the buildings the AI will naturally populate in that space is this one.

It certainly looks like it, but that means they're still a ways away from construction. The north side of the block would still need to be demoed before doing anything. Whereas the south side is just a parking lot right now.

Towers sums up what we know so far:

https://austin.towers.net/heres-91-r...tower-project/

This is being designed by Ziegler Cooper. In Austin, they've done the Austonian, Gables Park Plaza, Zaza and Millennium Rainey. Three out of four ain't bad. Here's their website:

JR is about as enthusiastic of a reporter as Jude is. In the article, if you click on the red lettered "coming together", he put together a graphic of the Rainey St District with the potential future skyline. I tried to copy and paste the picture here but I failed because I'm a copy and paste idiot.

And then a building with a 300' high pedestrian bridge connecting to a tower on the Statesman lot...with a viewing platform to be right in the middle of the bats for the full experience.

A demo permit was filed this week to clear the other half of the site.

A short presentation was added to the site plan for a "modified Great Streets" plan. I haven't heard of this before, but something about the project/site must
preclude a more typical Great Streets design. Here's a drawing from the site plan:

Soil retention plans are posted for 09/06 AULCC. The start of construction was moved way up to November 1st. It was previously listed as between July 2019 and July 2020.

So it starts Nov 2018? Is it unusual for it to start earlier? Is this a good sign for the market?

Certainly isn't a bad sign. Now, if we could just get something to happen at Waller Place and the dumb Ihop.
