Renovations and new construction going on in Bridgeport. The only reason I post this news is because of the developer (Zhou Group). We've seen plenty of news like this, and it continues to indicate that the major players these days in Bridgeport are Chinese. I wonder if it's only a matter of time before Bridgeport flips towards becoming a majority Chinese neighborhood

Zoning has been approved for a new mixed-use development at 3315-3319 S Morgan Street in Bridgeport. Comprised of three buildings, the development is located along S Morgan Street between W 32nd Place and W 33rd Place. There are multiple options for public transportation nearby. Both the 31 CTA bus route, accessed at the 31st and Morgan stop, as well as the 35 CTA bus route, accessed at the 35th and Morgan stop, can be reached within a five-minute walk. The 8 CTA bus route, accessed at the 33rd and Halsted stop, is a six-minute walk away.

Developed by the Zhou B Group, the development requested this zoning change to alter the underlying zoning from RS-3, residential single-unit district for detached homes, to B1-2, neighborhood shopping district for mixed-use projects.

We actually had our wedding at the Zhou B Art Center last September. If you haven't been, go..its an awesome place for art.. These guys are way higher profile than people even realize. One of the prep rooms we were given for the event had pictures of them with like the former president of China, Obama, Bill Clinton, etc. These guys have hosted Obama Foundation and I believe the NBA during the all star break. They have a gallery in Beijing for awhile and they have actually gifted their own art to the UN and White House previously.

One thing I learned from doing our wedding with them is that they have a small little empire going there. They own the entire warehouse the art center is in and have actual companies renting out space there..like lighting companies and what not. The first floor is entirely their work with a cafe but other floors are for other artists some of whom live there.

They also have a foundation on Morgan with a garden. It was actually the building with their first apartment in Chicago. Years later they purchased it and put their foundation there. This development in question is directly across the street from this. What i found out is they own MULTIPLE buildings in this area and are landlords too in Bridgeport. They even bought a ballroom a long time ago right here which i believe is where they actually live and their main studio is. That area is now majorly Chinese.

They definitely have capital and more than people realize to do projects. They are pretty prolific with their work since the 80s. I get the sense that people with deep pockets collect or commission work from them.

A good article on the recently completed Rubenstein forum on UChicago's campus (I think some of the photos in the article have been posted recently):

https://www.archpaper.com/2020/10/fa...alls-and-zinc/

The building height to top of parapet is +163'-6", which is a decent size for a 10 story building, and certainly one of the tallest on campus.

It looks like it was executed perfectly and will be a great contributor to Chicago's public art. I really hope that Salesforce can put something of its equal in front of its building after completion.

I think it fine that the fountain was scratched for the building but I do hope that there is some structure/art that draws the eye to the curve at Salesforce near the ground level.

Building permit was issued for the corner of Western & Iowa, which is/was a car dealership. New building is 4 stories with 17 units, ground floor retail and a 33 car garage. My money is it looking like the newer building next door.

I hope some of the old signs here are going to be saved by someone:

If I've learned anything from American Pickers its that there is an active market for transportation memorabilia. These would sell fast and for high dollar if listed online. Chances are the many local architectural salvage companies have already bid on them.

Does anyone know what's going on with the BP on Lasalle and Ontario? They've been digging up the tanks it looks like but I haven't found any info about what the next plans are for the site.

My question is what's going on with the gas station at Chicago and Orleans, which is also being torn up right now.
