Skyrise Modifies Lease Agreement With Bayside As Site Work Continues

Quote:
Site work is continuing at the Skyrise Miami site, as the developer prepares for vertical construction.

On December 17, lawyers for Bayside Marketplace filed a modified lease in county records for the land that will be used to construct the new tower, including the addition of an access parcel for utility and drainage facilities.

In November, Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation announced to shareholders that it had been awarded the contract to build Skyrise Miami, with a valuation of $540 million. The company’s Plaza Construction subsidiary will oversee construction in Miami.

Construction of the foundation is set to begin in the second quarter of 2019, according to the release.

I thought I saw somewhere that they're gonna rebuild the sea wall around the lot. If that's true they would need to do that before they started foundation work I would believe. However, as of now, there is still minimal activity on site

If I had to take a guess as to why its still gonna be a while before vertical construction gets underway is because the Plaza team that's gonna be building this has another project to finish first (My guess would be 1000 Museum) and they need to get to a point where they can shift resources over to this project (1000 Museum is done second quarter 2019 IIRC?)

Via construction cam. Looks like some pile drivers were added. Although IDK how long they have been sitting there since the last cam update.

I like this tower but minus the ferris wheel on the back, I think that ruins it, at least from that angle. Good to see another 1000 footer in a US city.

Does anyone have any insight as to what's going on with this project? Those foundation machines have been sitting there since march doing nothing. Gotta be expensive to keep those things sitting around

Imagine a tower like this, of 2,000 ft high in New York. Would be great.

+1

Nothing would be more Miami than proposing a project of this nature, halfway starting it, then abandoning it completely.

‘It’s a Ferris wheel on steroids.’ Bayside Marketplace will soon have a new attraction

Quote:
Bayside Marketplace will soon offer visitors a new way to see Miami — and it involves heights.

With a goal of having it spinning by the time Super Bowl rolls into town Feb. 2, SkyViews America is erecting a 176-foot tall observation wheel.

The wheel — which is smaller but similar to the London Eye and the Wheel at ICON Park in Orlando (formerly the Orlando Eye) — jumped its final hurdle July 31, when it won approval from Miami’s Planning and Zoning Board.

“It will be a good way to get a panoramic view of what downtown has to offer,” said Seth Gordon, a business consultant for Bayside. “It’s a Ferris wheel on steroids.”

[...]

Skywheel brings to the City of Miami an iconic and first-class amenity to Bayside and the City and is compatible with the surrounding area,” the lawyer said on behalf on the company. “Skywheel is the type of use anticipated to serve visitors of Bayside and due to the project’s passive nature in a public park is less invasive in comparison with other uses permissible at Bayside.”

While the goal to get it up and running by February may seem lofty, the developers say they are confident they will be able to get it done. Pre-fabricated pieces of the wheel have been in storage in Miami for months, Gordon said.

“It’s like putting a bicycle together,” Gordon said. “It’s in a bunch of pieces and it just needs to be put together.”
