Project was approved by the Design Commission on Thursday. I'll post images later this week.

Hmm...I'm curious as to what others think of the change from dark brick to light brick. I guess it'll just blend into the neighborhood anyways, since the brick looks similar to Deschutes.

I am not a fan of beige brick in general. In this context it doesn't look too bad, but I still would have preferred the darker color.

Modera Davis: Lightened up

At Northwest 10th Avenue and Davis Street — the half-block where Jimmy Mak’s jazz club is — there will soon be a 12-story apartment building.

By a vote of six to one, the city’s Design Commission approved the Modera Davis in early September when Sera Architects incorporated recommended design changes.

The approved plans include a half-block building backing up to Bearing Service Co. and Deschutes Brewery between 10th and 11th Avenues. The ground floor contains a lobby, a leasing office, three retail spaces and an extra micro-retail space. There will be 325 long-term bike parking spaces, two levels of underground car parking and landscaped terraces on the 12th floor, along with a fitness center, club room, conference room and dog patch.
...continues at the Business Tribune.

I also preferred the darker brick, but since it's across the street from the Armory (which is also dark), I'm fine with the contrast.

I preferred it darker as well, but then again, the metal from the previous design might have ended up looking cheap... so... maybe this is a good change?

Sad news.

Party's over for iconic Portland jazz club

Last February, news came that longtime jazz club Jimmy Mak's was temporarily out of a home thanks to plans for a new apartment building. Then the club found a new place to set up shop just across the street.

But today, Jimmy Makarounis, who's owned the renowned jazz club for nearly 20 years, announced in a statement on the club's website that he's pulling the plug. The cause: Makarounis is being treated for cancer of the larynx, and his doctors want his focus to be on that.

"It is with a heavy heart I write this today. On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2016, Jimmy Mak’s will host its final show and close its doors indefinitely," Makarounis wrote. "I am currently undergoing immunotherapy treatments for cancer of the larynx, which has intensified in the past five weeks. My doctors insist that I step away from Jimmy Mak’s business to focus solely on healing."
...continues at the Portland Business Journal.

That is really sad news on both accounts, Portland is losing an iconic club and the owner is dealing with cancer. I do wish him the best and hopefully he will be able to beat this, but throat cancer is a tough one.

A lot of progress since ^those^ pics

I'm loving the density here - the four-block radius from here feels very urban.

Sorry couldn't find a thread for this one -- NW 10th near Everett, the former Jimmy Mak's jazz club spot. Crane going up Saturday.

Walked past this yesterday. The building is now known as the Gossamer. I guess Milk Creek sold it?

I forgot about this building, when this pandemic is over and I go back to walking around downtown regularly again, I am probably gonna come across this building and think to myself "how long has that building been there?"

Does anyone have photos of it finished? I think the last photo is early construction? I still don't know how to upload photos - I think I need a flickr account or something like that?
