If there isn't there should be.
Perhaps integrate a world-class skate park into the Penn's Landing plan, or somewhere along the river
Under 95?
Skate Park -Burnside Skatepark -Portland, Oregon

Could be a great attraction

There's something under the 95 re-construction project in Port Richmond along Richmond Street (around Lehigh) that resembles this. Could be the makings of an under the highway skate park.

Why weird and why bad? My understanding is that traffic circles are much safer than normal intersections. They are unusual to many people, but not too hard to understand.

If you're referring to all the bump-outs, bulbs and juts in curb, I agree. I'm a proponent of roundabouts but I'm not sure this intersection was the ideal candidate. Kind of like shoehorning a roundabout into a tight Parisian multi-way intersection and then screwing up all the symmetry and sweeps of line to make it work. We'll see how it turns out.

I drove right by there yesterday morning. The building has been cleared. I had no idea that a project was going up here. I'm very happy to see it. I can't wait to see what this area looks like in a few years.

Even more impressive that they snagged La Colombe as a tenant at 6th & Girard.

That is awesome! Was that mentioned in an article? I saw the Naked Philly info, but missed that part.

'It could be like Manayunk': From Mount Airy to Wayne Junction, development is transforming Germantown Avenue

Tenants that have leased space in Weinstein’s properties include Attic Brewing Co., which recently expanded to have an 8,000-square-foot outdoor beer garden, and Merzbachers, the bakery with a dedicated and growing following. Both grew their businesses during the pandemic and need more space.

Across the way, Weinstein is converting what is known as the Max Levy building into 32 apartments, and a building at 113 Berkley St. has been razed to make way for an apartment building with ground-floor commercial space. Work on that project is expected to begin early next year.

I'm not apposed to circles/roundabouts, but this is an over-designed mess. It looks like some parameters were given to a traffic engineer who has never been to an urban area.

It certainly does wreak havoc with the existing geometry of the street and curb line. This is because the current intersection is really too tight for a roundabout. Typically a roundabout produces a relatively smooth and graceful line of travel with a radius that keeps cars moving. This looks like it will be pretty herky jerky with likely many motorists gunning their accelerators adding to noise pollution. In reality I see this just being a 5-way stop with a landscaped circle in the middle. That's not the point of a roundabout.

The crazy thing about the roundabout is they aren't even this over designed in rural areas.

I see they give the bump-outs to stop drivers from cutting the circle instead of going around, however they must not know how Philly drivers drive. those bump-outs will be destroyed in a year.
