Question [Hull] 24 Blvd Saint-Raymond | ?m | 3f | U/C

A two stories building is proposed near downtown Gatineau, close to the Village Place Cartier recently bought by Brigil. Nothing grandiose, I just felt nostalgic about that McDonald's. It's definitely a very welcomed addition to the area, though.

We should be seeing quite a few new buildings along St-Joseph once the revitalization is complete. It has good bones for a traditional main street.

I'm glad to see they are finally doing something with that eyesore. We don't have many abandoned buildings in the region, it's surprising how long that old Mcdonalds has been there all boarded up. I'm amazed that Mcdonalds corporate allowed the franchisee to keep that there next to a new restaurant for so long.

AFAIK the fact that it stayed abandoned for so long was actually McDonald's fault. I believe they or their franchisee owned the land where the former McDonald's used to be, and always refused to sell or lease it to anyone who wanted to put a competing restaurant on the site.

An acquaintance of mine once upon a time was looking for a potential restaurant location in Hull, and this was one of his first choices, but was told to forget about it.

I believe Tim Horton's does the same thing where corporate owns/rents the land and leases it out to the franchisee.

I don't think I've ever heard those exact words put into a sentence.

With Place Cartier getting revamped and Le Columbia going up, that corner is going to be looking a lot different in a few years.

Disappointing this development isn't taller. That corner lot would have been a great spot for a mid to high-rise.
