Interesting, looks like this chain has 100+ locations around the world (US, Europe, Asia), and this will be the first location in Canada. Cool addition to the Downtown hotel scene!

Looks like it's been planned for a while (the hotel's logo is in the renderings from early 2021). It seems to be Marriott's equivalent of ALT, and most of the existing locations are in fairly hip locations. The brand is new enough to not have its own Wikipedia page yet.

It looks like it will be a good fit, although there's a lot of hotel rooms recently completed, or approved/UC (this + JAG + Haliburton Waverley Inn expansion + Sutton Place and Muir recently opened + various hotels outside the core). It sounds like there are plans to place further restrictions on AirBnbs so maybe these will all be needed, but it's kind of a shame that they're not building some of these as residential.

Hey, don't forget the crown jewel known as the Bayers Lake Tower Hotel!! :p

In all seriousness, I agree. Especially with the recent proposal to expand the Waverley Inn on Barrington. I feel the residential shortage is a much more pressing issue given the recent construction.

Maybe they are planning on more homeless shelters being created using hotel rooms as was the case with the newish hotel on Brunswick St. Covering all the bases!

If the Halifax Tower Hotel is connected to the Comfort Hotel doesn't that make it one integral building so perhaps the blank wall could have had windows? There is a lower extension that extends to Chain Lake Dr. which is also part of the building and doesn't seem to be that different in concept.

Does anyone know why there are no windows on that side of the building, it's the side which has the best views of Halifax/Dartmouth and the ocean. Makes no sense to me.

I can't explain it, but that shot gives the building kind of a creepy, eerie feel to me.

It's interesting to me that this space basically didn't exist until these other projects were built. For a long time it was just a row of houses surrounded by parking, with no real definition of this alley, that could have been at the edges of a small industrial town somewhere. Now it looks like an urban scene.

The 12 Apostles seem crammed in now... that other new building site abuts their alley making it like a tunnel.

The old curling rink that used to be on the site of the Anthony prior to it burning down a few years back was not built right out to the property line. The residents of the row houses used to garden and store stuff like recycle bins, etc. across the laneway from their units. It is a much tighter laneway now and darker too.

I hope this one turns out nicely but I must say that it will be challenging for it not to be a net win for the skyline when it's blocking a Staples.
