Huntington, West Virginia - A Google Sketchup City

Hello!

As I'm working with Beveraux, at the same time I thought I'd try a completely opposite city, based in West Virginia. I don't have a street map yet, but I have a teaser screenshot. So here we go!

-- HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA --

Founded in 1886

Population (Metro): 1,837,388

Notes-------------------------------------------------

Huntington, West Virginia, has had a sad history to it, full of corruption, crime, poverty, disease, and mass murder, which continues to haunt the city today. Many people have a sour taste in their mouths when they say "Huntington", mainly because it has the highest murder rate, robbery rate, assault rate, and overall crime rate in the entire nation, making New York City look like Child's Play.

Huntington boomed in the early-mid 20th Century as a steel and industrial town. There was a large boom in construction during the 1940's and 1950's, and many buildings remain there today. Now, it's very common to find factories all over town, producing chemicals, and steel. Sadly, this has led to 3 large disasters involving chemical spills, and explosions.

The population of Huntington is, not surprisingly, decreasing. The spread between the rich and the poor is growing larger and larger. Many tenements and low-rent apartment buildings are being built. This is leading to crimes all over the place. Hate crimes, gangs, and even mafias are building up. Huntington is a very gritty place that only the toughest can live in. It's comparable to Gotham in "Batman".

On August 25th, 1989, a mad city official and his gang took 58 people hostage in the at-the-time largest, and most glamorous hotel in Huntington. He also had a very large homemade bomb with him. For 4 hours the police tried to negotiate, but to no avail. The city official blew up the bomb, which resulted in the 23 floor hotel to partially collapse onto a major city crowd watching the event. It went all too well for the mad city official as almost 900 people were killed in the event.

Unlike any other Google Sketchup city ever made, because this city is so gritty, corrupt, and crime-ridden, I'm going to make almost all the screenshots in a nighttime setting. After all, this could easily be considered one of the worst cities to live in, in the entire US.

Teaser Screenshot-------------------------------------------------------

Staunton and Huntington are in two different universes. Cause Staunton is the worst in the US I like this city though! Looks worse than Staunton!

Well, in any case both have bad crime rates. Actually I'll be talking about a lighter side of Huntington soon, anyway.

Alright, not much time, but I did an updated screenshot. I've started adding trees, cars, background factories (not shown), low-density buildings (not shown), and more buildings.

nice stuff so far, but it looks like your scale is a bit out on those textures. Either that or Huntington has Bonsai trees along its avenues

Wow! Now that you say that, I see you are right. The scale is way off then I thought, heh. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll fix it pronto.

^^^^^^ Not entirely sure on a height, but it's appox. 49 stories tall. I hope to make downtown more spread out than my other sketchup cities I've made, with little or no supertall buildings. I hope that's not too boring, I'm just trying to do something a little different .

Anyway, more screenshots to show the city!

Looking down Peach Ave.

Lightning Rips the Sky

Skyline Without Light Effect (Includes Rouge Tower, tallest building so far)

Foggy Night Awaits Morning Rush Hour (Sorry, bad photoshop )

More to follow in the upcoming days!

Update of Huntington coming soon!

(Likely Final) Update of Beveraux, Maine coming soon!

(Note: Message was to prevent this from getting bumped into territory where it can't be recovered)
