The Art Deco dump thread

In this thread, I shall dump random pieces of basic art deco shapes. You can too, if you like. I put in the empire state building for scale. I eye-balled its dimensions, but the final height is correct. Any and all comments are welcome.

Yeah I will admit that the second one looks like something out of the movie Metropolis.

And thanks.

Is it just me, or is the sketchup forum pretty dead right now? We used to have all these competitions and dozens of posts per-day.

Though I wouldn't say the thin pencil tower in the first post (3rd image down) was totally unrealistic as I actually based it off this.

Something that is also fairly to scale. Could be an art deco clock tower?

thats a pretty big clock tower! (400-500ft) plus i don't think that there are many art-deco clock towers out there.

anyways, i put together this VERY simple art-deco Mega-complex, and the untextured building is the empire state building. (with the communication tower that is on it today)

Flamesrule, that spire isn't exactly Art-deco, but i know you didn't make it for this thread. otherwise, its great!

on another note, i'm contemplating putting one of my art-deco buildings in Howich, do think i should, and if so which one?

To Innsertnamehere:

The second image of the tall tower reminisces that of the ol' Carew Tower in Cincinnati, which is by far in the Art Deco fashion.

To Krases:

I really like all your designs, I'm a huge fan of Art Deco and the second image you posted earlier do reminds me of Metropolis too, both of 1927 and the anime 2001.

Lots of inspiration...

Speaking of Art Deco, here's a render of a bank building I'm working on. I'm trying out the Shaderlight Rendering which is in it's stages. Thanks for looking.

Holy wow! Very fancy. For now I am trying to focus mainly on dominant/sub-dominant and subordinate shapes and relations to one another, as opposed to higher levels of detail. Do you build floor by floor?

I would actually take the largest one and maybe scale it down so it is in proportion with the rest of the city.

Yes, I do. For most of my work I do then I work my way around. Thanks to you and your help with doing copying and arraying my work, it's much easier. Now, all I do is work on my design and into the creative process.

Thanks for the compliment.

Whats art deco without a little Decopunk? Gotta have some big Hindenburg's cruising around, docking at the aerial airship dock.

I'm sorry, but the base is too big... (i like the idea though....)

anyways, did you know that the empire state building's spire was originally intended to be used as a airship dock?? no airship ever docked there though curse you hindenburg!!!!

Yeah, its certainly way too large. I actually based it off this giant monstrosity minus the airplane airport:

A smaller airship dock with comparisons to the Empire state building and the massive dock.
