Though if anything, the one in Sioux Falls probably is more grand with its extensions out from the sides of the cathedral.

That makes me wonder, what's the most grandiose church standing in Winnipeg? Probably one of:

* Westminster United: https://www.google.com/maps/@49.8818...7i13312!8i6656

* Knox https://www.google.com/maps/@49.8954...7i13312!8i6656

* Sts Vladimir & Olga Cathedral https://www.google.com/maps/@49.9153...7i13312!8i6656

* Ukrainian Holy Trinity https://www.google.com/maps/@49.9186...7i13312!8i6656

Edit: Also, shit tier church of the rock and springers obviously don't count ;-)

St Vladimir is cool but if you look closely the ceiling is actually those ceiling tiles everyone has at their cottage from the 1950’s. Maybe that makes it cooler actually.

St. John's Anglican on Anderson Ave. is right out of the English countryside. Did the tour for Doors Open last year and the history behind that place is astounding.

It's not an app but a Python project https://github.com/jantic/DeOldify

If you're familiar with "notebook" style software projects, or even if you're not, the easiest way to do it yourself will be to use the the linked notebooks here: https://github.com/jantic/DeOldify#easiest-approach

The linked image notebook (as opposed to video) is here: https://colab.research.google.com/gi...zerColab.ipynb

If you're not familiar with notebook projects, basically:
Each of the grey blocks in the notebook represent a block of executable code that runs in a managed environment in "the cloud". Each section of code can be run by hovering mouse over the left side of the block over the '[ ]' and click on the play button that appears. To colourize a photo, run each of the code blocks in the 'Git clone and install DeOldify' and 'Setup' sections, in order. Then you'll be able to repeatedly run the 'Colourize' section for different photos by inputing the source url of the image, running the code section, and then right clicking the produced image and "save as...".

Hope that helps!

Holy Trinity Anglican is incredible inside and out. Beautiful interior, and I love looking at the church when walking past - visual respite in South Portage; it stood on the edge of the city's built up area when it was constructed in 1884.

Not in the city, but St. Andrew's-on-the-Red is one of my favourites. The oldest remaining church building in Western Canada, built in the late 1840s.

Knox and Westminster are definitely up there for their exterior grandeur. Augustine on River Avenue is a little smaller, but has the same level of details and look of permanence. Those wealthier Presbyterian congregations didn't mess around. St. Luke's Anglican on Nassau is another grand church and a beautiful legacy of Winnipeg's old wealthy set. Stain glass windows donated by Lady Cameron, a rood screen donated by Lady Nanton...

A number of the city's Ukrainian churches are also incredible. "Wally & Olly" (Vladimir & Olga) on McGregor, Holy Trinity Cathedral on Main, and Holy Eucharist on Watt, all on the more traditional mid-20th century. The modernist "St. Nick's" on Bannerman has to be my favourite, perhaps more for its sanctuary space than for its wild jet turbine exterior. "St. Joe's" on Jefferson is a little more staid, but I still like it.

I'd love to see inside St. Nicholas. It and Précieux Sang are both amazing Modern churches. So unexpected.

I'd like to see inside the Gaboury church in Transcona as well.

St. Nicholas was altered a few ago when they added an elevator for improved access to various levels, along with a slightly larger lobby area for the sanctuary and the staircase to the church hall below. Synyshyn Architecture did an amazing job making it look 100% consistent with the original part of the church. You'd have to look close to see where it was altered... I was glad that the church protected the integrity of the building's original design.

Photos from Library and Archives Canada

This took a bit of time but was looking through the LAC site and there is a lot there. The Mounties shot is pre-Elvis; if memory serves, crowd was excited for the Queen's visit. Kept Skinner Poulin's hockey card even though he was apparently traded to Montreal in 1909 (or maybe that is just their birthplaces listed). Will also post a couple photos from WPG and elsewhere across country in Canada section later.

Is that at the Alexander docks? I remember as a kid in the 90’s going there to watch boat racing.

The woman in the foreground is shading her eyes from the sun and the shadows show she is looking into the sun.

The Alexander Docks face southeast. It would have to be morning for the sun position to be true.

The Canoe Club faces southwest. The sun would be true in the afternoon. The situation looks like the afternoon. Therefore the Canoe Club is far more likely.
