Courtney seems to be doing not too horrible for herself, inheriting Nirvana royalty rights. Last year she started her own clothing line, and starred in Sons of Anarchy along side Saskatoon's Kim Coates..

Ponteix has played the festival circuit from BC to Quebec, where Montreal-based filmmaker Nichola Marakas, so enamored by the group from videoing their festival performances offered to make a short film video 12 minute epic of one of the band's songs. Nichola paid his own way out to Saskatchewan to do the Prairie clips with the group's music & Montreal city footage interspersed.

..After seeing lead singer/guitarist/synth & in various interviews, I must say I have a huge man-crush on Mario LePage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41L9swz146Y&t=40s

Fresh off awards at Le Gala des prix Trille Or this last month, Ponteix was nominated for Best Discovery, Export West (artist from Western Canada having the most success outside of their region), Best Songwriter (Mario LePage), Best Group, Best Visual Design (graphic designer Stephanie Kuse) and Best Website. They won in Breakout artist/group of the Year, and Best EP.

They'll be at Saskatchewan Jazz Festival in Saskatoon end of June and Regina Folk Fest in August.

Mandy Ringdal from Outlook, Saskatchewan halfway between Saskatoon & Regina released a few weeks ago an inspirational song/video for Cancer survivors.
Mandy is an ovarian cancer survivor herself & along with some other Saskatchewan women in testimonial second half of first video link below.

Mandy is very thoughful, heart-felt in her lyrics to music and she reminds me a lot of lead singer Natalie Maines from Dixie Chicks.

..As much as I like watching their directed/produced video productions it's their live performance videos I love to watch most.
Close Talker's have done a lot of really fun concept concerts, such as #JAMINTHEVAN Venture, CA and Sofar NewYork concert series. It really shows composure during complexity of playing multiple instruments with effortless ease.

Wonder what Canadian Group or Duo has had the most YouTube video hits in the World for a song so far, first half of 2017?

Arcade Fire, Nickelback, Walk off the Earth..maybe? (Strumbellas had the most hits in 2016)

.. nope, it's your very own The Dead South from Regina with 15 Million views for In Hell I'll Be In Good Company Official video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9FzVhw8_bY

Fresh off European Tour where they sold out most of their dates with more dates planned there & in the USA in the Fall, They are back in Saskatchewan having played Saskatchewan Jazz Fest in Saskatoon last weekend and playing tomorrow at home in Regina for Canada Day 150 celebrations.

Video Link

I really like The Dead South's parody videos too, especially the one with Hillary Clinton & Mr Bean
Happy Canada Day everyone!

This week i'm highlighting Erin Hill.

Born & raised in Medstead, Saskatchewan, Erin having completed Grade 8 exams through The Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music & then enrolled at the music program at University of Saskatchewan, Erin competed at the World Championships of Performing Arts plus also The Big Talent Showcase in America.

Erin's cover from earlier this year of Demi Levato's Stone Cold with a simple piano accompaniment really knocks it out of the ball park.

..Plus a couple original songs & webpage from Erin Hill.
Erin is performing in Saskatoon this weekend & in September during CCMA awards weekend.

^^ Speaking of Codie Prevost who's originally from Archerville, Saskatchewan, now living in Saskatoon got his start in music business with being selected as one of the Top 12 out of 7,500 artists in the world in the Unsigned Only Competition. & having his 2nd album release get a 6 out of 7 star rating in Nashville Music Guide.

Codie is another one of those Saskatchewan music artists that has a bigger following in his home province & outside of Canada than inside the rest of his home country.
He has a huge following in Australia, touring there 3 times in the last 18 months & playing that country's most prestigious music festivals including mainstage at Tamworth, the World's second largest country music festival. Codie's single 'All Kinds of Crazy' charting at 14 in Australia's country charts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuFsk2LXD8A

The first highly anticipated new single from Kelsey Fitch of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan is called Hold Your Hand released last month and is sure to be the wedding song of the Summer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DynLuZWj5eI&t=268s

This last month Kelsey has been releasing one-take videos every couple weeks of each of her songs for her new album.

From her 2015 EP Play Nice, Kelsey's first debut single was A Little Taste,

Lights of a Combine was on same debut EP (see second youtube link below)

"An amazing lazy-dayz game of catch with a neutron star." → Sic Magazine

"Simultaneously deceptively light and deceptively heavy." → Psych Insight Music

Psychedelic space rockers, The Radiation Flowers from Saskatoon released latest album Summer Loop last month with Sunmask records (NAmerica) & Cardinal Fuzz (UK/Europe).

Checkout their songs on:
https://theradiationflowers.bandcamp.com/

The Radiation Flowers previously released a split 7" with Swedish rockers The Orange Revival and have toured Europe & the festival circuit there & here at home. Be on the lookout for up coming tour with this album release.

Here's one of my favourite videos of theirs from last year, I like the James-Bond-opening-credits psuedo effects

Another Saskatoon band, the all girl group, The Garrys have a very similar vocal sound to The Radiation Flowers above.
With retro vibes and a surf-doowop sound, The Garrys also just released a new album couple months ago called Surf Manitou

http://exclaim.ca/music/article/the_...album_premiere

The Garrys previous album from last year Warm Buds had same soft harmonizing blend of airy, passive vocals & singing about food & staying in bed all day long.
I love the fact they used footage of award winning Broadway dancer Gwen Verdon from 50 years ago in video for 'In This Dream'.
I also love the fact that the video has over two hundred thousand youtube hits & counting, making their video the most viewed song by a Canadian all female group in years (except for the duo Tegan and Sara).

^^^Speaking of Saskatoon music groups with female drummers like The Garrys and The Radiation Flowers.

The Steadies, also from the Paris-of-the-Prairies, has also had a female drummer, Lexie Miller.

Fronted by Earl Pereira one of the original cofounders of Saskatoon's Wide Mouth Mason from the early 2000s which were the first North American rock band to perform in mainland China,
The Steadies have come full circle having signed with MusicDish China this last January & The Steadies did their Asian Tour 2017 in May & June.

Video Link

The Steadies are a great group to see live. Here's one of their previous videos from Capitol Club in Saskatoon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN1zQVn6hyI

The Steadies latest video from a few weeks ago is called Love Revolution and has several cameos of some other Saskatoon music artists in it, shot at Lucky Bastard Distillers. The Steadies are playing Lakeside Music Festival in Prince Albert National Park this weekend.
