I didn't want to say anything, but they've put traffic barriers on the westbound turn lane along 12th street there. There's been a ton of utility work in the neighborhood, though, so hard to tell if this is specific to the hotel, or to, say, the Waller construction across the street.

It's a race between this one and the Town Lake/East Ave Apt tower as to to which long suffering project actually breaks ground.

AE Design Intake for temporary power at 1201 Red River Street filed by GC Flintco. Could this be for construction of this project?

One would think so. We are now in a race to see which of the two longest stalled but recently resurrected projects (this & Town Lake Lofts) gets started first.

Dying to know what hotel goes here. A good hotel could really anchor the area.

Prior to COVID it was supposed to be a Curio by Hilton. So . . . definitely upscale, definitely boutiquey. But I haven't heard anything since then, so hard to say.

One way or another, Hilton is underrepresented in Austin, so IMO they'll probably push to move forward as Curio.

There's a lot of quiet-before-the-storm action going on in that part of town. Lots of stuff bubbling up in the next 2-5 yrs.

A tower crane license permit was filed today. We get a little sign of hope every six months or so for this project.

Does it give us dates, or am I looking in the wrong place?

The initial license permit almost never has dates. The dates will be on the next crane permit which will be for the installation ROW closures.

Gotcha. Still good news. Weird and piecemeal, but still good news.

Visit Austin's newest hotel supply/pipeline report just dropped, and it had a number of interesting updates:

-- Waterloo Tower will be a Curio by Hilton, is in final planning stage, and is projected to open by 2026.

Makes me wonder, though . . . knowing we're seeing so many permits, whether this might mover faster than that.

A demo permit was filed yesterday for the site, and towers has a good article with updated renderings.

P.S. I hate how this site doesn't automatically resize photos.
