It’s better to have discussed Chicago and lost, than never to have discussed Chicago at all......

My team fired a coach with a winning record to hire a gimmick from New England that has only won 4 of the last 20 games.

The Lions & Browns fanbases can both make legitimate claims to the "longest suffering" crown in the NFL.

they're the only two old-school teams that have never even been to a superbowl, much less win one.

Technically the Browns are an expansion team created in the late 90s. The original Browns franchise is the current Baltimore Ravens. So, as a franchise, it's really just the Lions holding that crown. But as a market, Detroiters share the misery with their neighbors in Cleveland.

but when the new browns entered the league, the NFL stripped the legacy, history, and stats from the ravens franchise and gave them to the new browns because it made sense to do so.

so as far as the NFL is concerned, the new browns ARE the old browns, and the ravens are effectively the expansion franchise.

of course, all of this stupidity could have easily been avoided if art modell wasn't so fucking stupid......

Quote:
In 1995, owner Art Modell, who had purchased the Browns in 1961, announced plans to move the team to Baltimore. After threats of legal action from the city of Cleveland and fans, a compromise was reached in early 1996 that allowed Modell to establish the Baltimore Ravens as a new franchise while retaining the contracts of all Browns personnel. The Browns' intellectual property, including team name, logos, training facility, and history, were kept in trust and the franchise was regarded by the NFL as suspended, with a new team to be established by 1999 either by expansion or relocation. The Browns were announced as an expansion team in 1998 and resumed play in 1999

I was never really taught how to root for winning NFL teams, so I often do find myself rooting for the Jets instead of the Giants. The Giants have won the Super Bowl twice since I've lived here, and I didn't know how to respond each time.

Yeah, the Jets have probably won the Tank for Trevor.

I would be really surprised if they won a game this year; they're comically bad.

that is pretty hilarious, though, considering Chicago appears nowhere in the thread title. but, hey, i guess there's no rule against misrepresenting your own thread so you win!
I agree back on topic, more Chicago...

NFL Power Rankings: The Bears are getting a little respect

We take a peek around the NFL Power Rankings this week to see what the experts think about the Chicago Bears.

Pro Football Talk moved the Chicago Bears up two after they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back on Thursday Night Football.

Bears ( 4-1): If the offense could put it together for four quarters, they’d run the table.

ESPN also moved the Bears up two spots

So, at least Cleveland has won a national championship in the 21st century.

The last time a major league sports team from Cincinnati won a playoff game/series? 1995.

They can salvage Darnold and trade that pick for a first, second, and third rounder + a player or two. The Jets need players all over...not another savior who'll struggle with a bad cast around him.
