Well once again I went by this and I attempted to take a photo of the crane and construction site but thanks to the shivering from the -30C weather I failed at the crane photo and most of the site photos didn't turn out well. This is the only photo of the dozen I took that was clear enough to see;

And just to show how close this is to the Trillium site;

They've changed the design significantly from the original. It looks okay, and now has a large glass atrium inside that probably will be nice. Unfortunately, it is not very open to the street.

I was thinking the same thing. It's really going to stick out like a sore thumb once this is built.

So is this one and the BioScience Enterprise gonna be the same building? Or is that gonna be beside this one?

I was under the impression that they were two buildings. The parking lot next to the Tupper Building is quite large and originally the LSRI was only to take up the northern part of it. Presumably the southern part would be the location of the new BioScience building.

Beside it. I didn't really show it in the pictures but only part of the former parking lot is fenced off. The LSRC takes up a good portion that is fenced off but there is some untouched space left near University Ave and part of the fanced off area is just stockpiled material.

If the funding comes through we could see a crane for the BioScience lot sometime this year. That coupled with the LSRC crane and the Trillium crane nearby will make for some good action.

One set of drawings is here: http://fm.dal.ca/lsri.htm . Another one is here: http://fm.dal.ca/lsri/ . Which one is the newer one? I certainly like the second set better.

The second appears to be a revised design. The first is the one that was released when this project was first announced.

I like the second conception better to...a lot less boxy...it appears as though a lot more though has been put into the design...not the biggest fan of the massive brick section's...but hell, I'm just pleased to see a decent building go up!!

same as the lot across from spice!!...I used to live at tower and SGR and I thought the very same thing to myself...in fact when I first moved to Haifax, I used to stroll around the south end looking at lots like this one and the one where LSRC is being built and dream of what could possibly be built there...I'm happy to see some of them starting to get filled

Thanks for the link

Looking at the constuction timeline the structural work is supposed to continue until October, then it switches over to masonry/interior and by April 2011 its supposed to be done.

It looks like what the street needs exactly so I'm happy.

I believe the Bioscience building and the LSRI will be built as one building connected by a glass atrium. Looking at the newer rendering, you can see the glass atrium with the raised roof connecting the original building (the one in the older rendering-LSRI) to the addition (Biosciences building).

Keep in mind the two rendering are taken from different vantage points, the first is a shot going up College St taken at the corner of Summer and College and the second is looking across Summer St (from the rehab hospital).

I have seen some interior renderings of the atrium which look pretty nice. I'll try to get my hands on them if I can.

Oh, that's right. I knew the vantage points were different but I didn't pay attention to the fact that the original LSRI renderings were much smaller. They are also consistent with the appearance of the right side of the new renderings.

The arrangement of the buildings is how I thought they would do it but I am not sure if the Bioscience part goes all the way over to University Avenue..? Is the grey ground cover in the rendering remaining surface parking?

It's true, the North Elevation of the building has changed, but not so much. The site plan at http://fm.dal.ca/lsri/pdf/L-101%20Site%20Plan.pdf indicates that both buildings occupy only about 60% of the lot and won't stretch to University Avenue.
