Also don't those dickwads know what painting brick does in this climate? They will have to rebuild the outer course of all that brick in 10 years after the moisture they are trapping turns it to moosh.

Could look really cool if they painted it grey and then sandblasted most of it off, though.

Buyers seem to like it.

Tho in this particular case I suspect it's to compete with the more modern stuff that's gotten built around this. Renters have a lot more options these days. This building also did a big interior reno of common areas and units a year or two ago IIRC.

Surely this is just a brick facade no?

^ the wisdom of painting brick aside, I actually kinda like the look of the building once painted. The old building was awful utility brick with even more awful PTAC grills stuck in it, like the terrible low-budget construction jobs all over NYC. The bay windows are a hilariously weak attempt to make the building contextual. It had no real base to the tower, the utility brick just slammed into the ground with a dull thud.

At least with the paint, the gray band gives the building some human scale at the base. Obviously there are better ways to address this problem, but the owners probably didn’t want to hire an architect and figured they could get a paint job for less than $100K.

whaaa? have you not seen all the low-budget residential stuff ruining Chicago's arch history? New construction (small-scale) is far better in NYC. It's just a fact. Also, I'm not seeing anything humanizing about the gray band, but to each her own.

Most of what gets built here really isn't that bad, some is stunning. In particular Candea development is slapping up killer lowrose masonry stuff all over Andersonville and Lincoln Square. Real limestone, normal sized face brick, jumbo face brick on the sides. The kind of development that will last centuries.

Also that lowrise they built on LSD in the Gold Coast is stunning, real limestone with awesome deco esque detailing. Makes OBP look like trailer trash.

Triangle Square Condos
66 condos, 300 apartments, retail

Very much has a California vibe IMO.

The architects also have a bunch of projects on their site:

Morton Salt redevelopment

1 S Wacker - not sure I like them chopping up a Jahn building

Greyhound Goose Island site - huge towers, assuming this was for Onni?

Love this. It actually reminds me of some of Bijarke Ingle's buildings in Denmark

Nice looking development. Yes, aside from looking very Danish, there's also a project or two in Brooklyn that are very similar with the sloped element and triangular site plan.
